sva testing
 

Can some-one help me out i just imported a 1999 scooby version 6 wrx sti type r ,i did'nt do my homework first and now finding it hard to get the car through sva test due to no model report for this car!

need to wait till 99 im afraid to register it,there was a loophole with registering in ireland and driving them over the border but not sure how that worked,i know a local importer did that but they have gone back to ireland.

There are no simple solutions Im afraid (only massively convoluted ones).

thanks for your help they told me at the sva prepping centre that they would drop my gear box out ,replace it with a standard version 5 box and change mine back after but this is costly.

im not sure how that would work either as the version 5 was 98-99 so still need to wait till next year if they want to class it as a V5,plus there are slight cosmetic differences with the 2 cars (i have a V5 typeR) and if they are talking about fitting a version 5 uk model box then the rear dif wouldnt match up either,type R has closer ratio and a 4.444 rear diff,uk has a 3.9 iirc

Sounds like nonesnse to me. The applied model number is on the chassis plate and on the certificate of deregistration, so cocking about with a gearbox will serve little purpose.

New to this game, more used to building landrovers out of many different ones!

I don't know if you can q plate cars any more,but what they are tellng me is they will swap the gearbox to get it through the sva and then put the orignal gearbox back in place after it has passed the test.The cost for this is £1500 but they say this is how they have got these cars through in the past.

What I am telling you, is that the required model report refers to the applied model number, which is embossed on the chassis plate. Even if they were to falsify this: its written on the certificate of de-registration too. Why they are focusing on the transmission is beyond me as all you would then have would be an un-SVAable (and therefore un-registerable) STI which also had the wrong gearbox.....

& £1500 just to change the gearbox is taking the p1$$!!!

Can I just pick up on this.

I'm looking at a V5 STi Wagon. It registered 1998/12 according to the sheet.

I actually wouldn't mind having the car off road for 12 months as a project BUT does anyone know if theres a model report for it and if so how much would it cost.

If I waited 12 months, is it just a case of getting an MOT and the other little things like fogs etc.

From modelreports.com theres a V5 saloon STI. Would that do for the wagon?

No it would not do for the wagon, as they will have a different applied model codes the saloon starts with GC8 and the wagon with GF8.

So, say for instance, I got a V5 saloon and this model reports place has the report. They say its £200 + VAT. How does it work?

I'd like to know how it works because I'm thinking of waiting 12 months until the V5 Type Rs no longer need an SVA.

How come some importers get plates for cars that don't have an SVA?

I had exactly the same problem! I bought an unregistered Type R on a 98 plate, and looked at paying anything around £3k to register it!!
If you are still having probs, PM me and I will give you the contact number of an SVA centre who were able to do my car. It took 5 wks, but saved me a fortune!!

Your not trying to SVA the car, but ESVA (pedantic, but they are two different processes) this means you have to show the car can be adapted to achieve Euro standards for emissions as they same model year car and what the adaptions are.
If someone has already done this then they can make available a model report for you to buy, so you copy the adaptations they made and can register the car.
To get a model report made yourself will cost a minimum of £500, more likley your into £2-3K.
A saloon MR can referance a wagon, depending on how its done (as the wagon is heavier, strictly it would be a wagon MR referancing a saloon!)

I understand what you are saying about the vin plate and de-reg document but they are saying that if they are to put it through on the v5 model report then there is only a 8% tollerance either way on the gear ratios.
This is why they said about changing the gearbox with the v6 r type cos it has a low ratio box there is a lot more than 8%.
