does anyone have an idea how much customs might charge for golf clubs from USA?

has anyone bought golf clubs from america and been charged duty on them recently? if so how much did they clobber you for?

would imagine clubs would be a favourite of customs to pick up the duty on so i'm fully expecting to pay something. just trying to work out a budget as the exchange rate is making a purchase quite appealing:D

would it just be VAT rate or a bit more?

whats is the cost of clubs and the cost of the shipping?

From what I can make out from the utterly confusing HMCE website - you'd pay 2.7% Customs Duty (which isn't a fixed rate and changes randomly depending on what the item is.. ) and 17.5% VAT.

I am going through the same thing at the minute, thinking about buying an APS Cold Air Intake from the states. ;)

This is a HMCE list of commonly imported goods with the applicable tax rates. Nothing for car parts though :(

You'll pay customs duty - at 2.7% for golf clubs / balls - which I think will apply to the total cost of your purchase (ie cost of goods + cost of shipping).

You'll then pay 17.5% VAT on top of the goods + duty figure... (so, yes, you pay tax on tax!)

Normally, you'll then find that Royal Mail (or who ever you use to transport / deliver the goods in the UK) will charge you a 'processing fee' of £8 (Royal Mail charge) on top of all that...

So - an example of £200 of clubs, with £30 shipping charges will rapidly turn into:

£200 + £30 + £6.21 duty + £41.34 VAT +£8 processing = £285.55

Hope this helps...

What clubs you getting, ive just looked at some ping g10s.

UK cheapest buy it now on ebay £439+£9 delivery, so that = £448

US cheapest buy it now on ebay $600. I dont think it would work out that much cheaper once you add all the taxes, delivery costs, etc.
