beal 18 November 2007 12:41 PM

Vista.it says trojan.zlob-x.a

mickeyscoob123 18 November 2007 12:55 PM

1.On the Start menu, click Control Panel, then click Administrative Tools. (If this option is not visible, click Classic View first)
2.Double-click Services.
3.Scroll through the list of services until you see Messenger, and then double-click it.
4.In the Startup Type list, click Disabled.
5.Under Service Status, click Stop, and then click OK.

You say you have security, what security software do you have? It might be worthwhile booting up into safe mode (reboot and then press the F8 key until the safe mode menu comes up, then select "Safe Mode" and press return) and then run your Anti-Spyware and Anti Virus software and see what it picks up and if it can remove it.

beal 18 November 2007 04:36 PM

norton is the security

Markus 18 November 2007 05:34 PM

Ok, so try a reboot into safe mode, fire up norton and get it to check if there is any infection.

Being honest I can't remember if Norton has any Anti Spyware feature within it, so it might be worth downloading and installing Ad-Aware and running a scan with it to see if it picks up anything.

MattW 18 November 2007 05:38 PM

Vista has the Microsoft one built in. Windows Defender

Markus 18 November 2007 05:47 PM

Good point Matt, I forgot about Defender. Give that a run and see if it throws something up. Being brutally honest I'd be tempted to ditch Norton and use something else, for example, perhaps the free version of AVG. I was repairing a friends PC the other night and they had Norton 2007 and after it was installed the machine was horribly slow for at least 10 mins after startup and it was all down to Norton. After removing it and putting on AVG it was back to being rather sprightly and it was still protected.

jowl 18 November 2007 07:14 PM

Urgh. Dump Norton asap.

AVG
Avast

Both free and much better than any Norton product.

Nod32
Kaspersky

Paid for and highly recommended by people.

So your next steps should be

1. Uninstall Norton. Install a good AV and run a scan
2. Place Norton Box and CD in metal bin/container.
3. Take said container outside, and set alight.
4. Take ashes, stir, add something flamable and light again

beal 18 November 2007 07:18 PM

Ive tryed getting rid of norton before, its not that easy.
Norton is built in to the laptop and wont uninstall properly so other security does'nt run right.

jowl 18 November 2007 07:26 PM

Yes, norton can be a Pain to remove. Even the company accept this and so produce a seperate remover....

Save your Norton 2007 Product Key, then download and run the Norton Removal Tool

jowl 18 November 2007 07:27 PM

PS, Don't forget steps 2-4 :D

beal 18 November 2007 11:07 PM

Ive just run system restore and everything seems fine, abit slow but the popups have gone!!thanks for the advice lads:thumb:

pimmo2000 19 November 2007 02:12 AM

trojan.zlob-x.a is a piece of MALWARE .. very annoying !

Its like a virus only it was designed to be a pain !!

I would suggest

The home of Spybot-S&D!

free and excellent

pimmo2000 19 November 2007 02:13 AM

all your system restore has done is reset the start up files, you need to remove the piece of code!

jowl 19 November 2007 07:54 AM

And you should still remove Norton.

NOW.

It'll make your computer life better.
