looking for a different holiday

I want to do something completely different next summer. Basically something that doesn't involve a beach, a pool or anything in the EU. The only thing I can think of is a safari or a cruise. Cruises appear to be populated by old people, so safari is favourite at the minute. Has anyone been to Kenya in August or does anyone have a suggestion about something that I won't get a brochure for in Going Places?

Hello

I went to Borneo (Sabah and then Sarawak): Trekking through the jungle, staying in a long house, seeing caves, climbed a mountain, playing with orangutans.

I had a great time, apart from the spiders. Stayed in the longhouse and made the mistake of shining my torch into the rafters. I didn't sleep very well after that, especially as the net I was sleeping under had holes.

I wouldn't write off the cruise - we went on one and certainly weren't the youngest, and that was outside school holidays too. The bigger ships seem to have everything you could dream of on board too.

We went on the Thomson Spirit, not the biggest (looks big until it's moored up next to one of Royal Carribean's!) but had a great time - service on the ship was excellent, and there was plenty to do on board.
