Linn Sondek LP12
Hi Fella's i've decided i want to buy myself a Linn Sondek LP12 to play the old vinyl on but if i'm honest i know very little about them. Just wondered if anybody can give me a few pointer's on how to buy a descent 2nd hand one
1 what should i pay for a descent 2nd hand with power supply 2 what are the desireable modifications 3 what' the best power supply that sort of thing thanks in advance |
IIRC, the desirable mods were new suspension, which later modles came with, and the Valhalla power supply.
Try to get one with a decent Linn arm, NOT the Basik, and probably not an Akito at that level. Ensure arm and deck bearings are in good nick. If it's to be couriered/posted, it'll need stripping, and should be in it's original packing. What cartridge do you intend using? AFAIK, Linn no longer make cartridges, nor stylii for the cartridges they DID make:( I have an Axis/Akito/K18 setup that still sounds good to me;( Alcazar |
Just buy a Mitchell Gyrodec instead...Look and sound better and not as quirky to set up as an LP12..
LP12's are still good, but if you had all the upgrades it would cost a fortune!! |
The Cirkus suspension upgrade is desirable. I wouldn't bother with the Lingo outboard power supply. Get an LP12 without and upgrade with an Origin Live DC motor and outboard power supply. It makes a huge difference.
turntable power supply - massive upgrade available for ALL record decks It's easy to fit. You can get some of your money back by selling the redundant Valhalla power supply on E-Bay. If the LP12 come with an Ittok that's an OK arm. If it come without an arm, it's worth looking at the Origin Live arms. They are really good. world class tonearms by origin live |
