03 UK STI - check engine light

As title, no engine mods, no de-cat, 60K miles, always serviced and today the check engine light comes on and won't go off.

Obviously I need to get it to a dealers but any ideas?

Engine seems to be running fine, no idle probelms, plenty of power. It came on while driving at 70mph on the motorway - no change in anything, it just lit up.

TIA

Dud sensor somewhere. Possibly lambda sensor but I'd have thought this might affect low speed (closed loop) operation althought the ECU might have default settings that make it seem to run OK. Shouldn't affect on boost operation as this is open loop and controlled by mapping. Best to drive gently and get to dealer/specialist asap.

Thanks for the reply. Since I posted the car won't restart so will get it taken to the dealer later today and see what the trouble is.

More likely crank position sensor then.

It is at the garage now and I am awaiting the verdict. Will post on here when I have it.

Thanks again.
