Quick audio question 5.1 v Dolby Pro Logic
I'm doing well for questions in this forum recently :lol1: Just goes to show how good you all are :notworthy
Just reinstalling a PC and have to choose a sound option for an ffdshow codec for video files (CCCP audio pack). The applicable choices are: 3/2 + LFE 5.1 channels Dolby Surround/Pro Logic Pro Logic II Which is the better option? :D (I have a 5.1 DTS audio out via Coax SPDIF from a X-Fi card) |
Prologic is older than DTS 5.1

Ohh - a question I know the answer to!
The original Dolby Surround was 4 speakers - stereo at the front but mono through both of the back speakers. Pro Logic added a front centre speaker channel but the rest was the same. My first amp was Pro Logic - bought in late 1993. Dolby Digital 5.1 was 5 proper channels (e.g the back speakers were stereo too) and a .1 base channel for low frequencies. DTS was similar to 5.1 but less compressed (I think) |
Dolby - Better compression but lossy :( Leaves more room on the DVD for extras.
DTS - Lossless compression :) |
cool, thanks ppl :)
