You lot with FMIC's .......

What do you do with the Scoop?

It would be far better to buy a Sport Bonnet as the lower wind resistance would give you a few extra BHP.

slipstream_uk 09 November 2007 07:23 PM

Ive left mine on, a scooby without the scoop just looks wrong im my eyes.

Form follows function, if there is no intercooler under the scoop it is irrelevant. The drag is phenomenal get rid and replace with something louvred, this will dissipate heat effectively.:thumb:

:lol1: ;)

essexboy30 09 November 2007 07:38 PM

top mounted oil cooler on mine, so bonnet scoop stays:thumb:

Anders_WR1 09 November 2007 07:57 PM

Yep, lots of drag. At high speeds, you can see the bonnet being pulled up in the middle! I heard some people turn the scoop around to make an air vent. I've not seen any pictures though.

pslewis 09 November 2007 08:11 PM

Now, that makes excellent sense - reversing the scoop ..... that would lower the wind resistance as well as 'dragging' hot air out of the engine bay :thumb:

Anyone able to post a piccie with a reversed scoop?

mickywrx 09 November 2007 08:21 PM

Use the searc.........

Save you time and effort,

Old pic of my mates car, now has a slatted vent like the RCM one.

There is one on autotrader for around 6000 with fmic and bonnet scoop backwards, looks good!!!!:)

BLOODY HELL!!!!

Thats worked better than I ever thought at drawing the heat away from the car, the damned thing has iced up

Simon 69 09 November 2007 08:27 PM

P20 SPD has a reversed carbon fibre scoop which came from Roger Clark Motorsport. It looks quite smart (I saw it at SC), but it cost a fortune.

I had wondered about fitting an oil cooler myself, but it seems to be fraught with problems due to the matrix being above the filler level. I probably will fit a Sport bonnet as Pedro suggests*. As I prefer go to show; I'll probably paint the intercooler matt black too thereby retaining the 'Wagon's stealth...

Simon

* if I ever register the damned thing and do anthing with it!

High pressure area at the base of the windscreen will try to force air into a reverse scoop. Vents are towards the front edge of the bonnet in a low pressure area to drag hot air out of the engine bay...

Dunx

Different car, but been there done that.

but surely the scoop allows for much better engine cooling and it also alows heat to escape :)

Surely the force of air entering the engine bay from the front will force air /heat out of the engine bay via the reversed scoop. The pressure at the base of the screen should be quite low around the scoop area as the scoop is deflecting air anyway.:wonder:

mickywrx 09 November 2007 09:09 PM

Vents are usually blocked off anyway, so serve no real purpose??

slipstream_uk 09 November 2007 09:18 PM

So whos thinking about getting a different scoop then ?
Like the ones sold at HT AUTOS

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y26...ky/st_1478.jpg

Did I hear group buy ?

mickywrx 09 November 2007 09:22 PM

No ;) See the pic in the link from Moley above. Thats an HT one and was the best of fits according to the owner. Now changed to a slatted one from ETS Racing

I would like to see it in a wind tunnel. Isn't there an under bonnet high pressure from the air coming in through the FMIC / radiator?

I would have thought the air blowing over the reversed scoop would cause some sort of suction effect drawing the air out?

Anger 09 November 2007 10:01 PM

Mine

Thats what I thought. When I had a Nissan GTIR with a front mount, some said thatthe big horn on the bonnet would create negative pressure in the engine bay.

You used to be able to get a different bonnet from IIRC SE Nissan with vents forcing air out and over the windscreen.

totally off topic, but i have just seen how i want my front end to look eventually, minus the morrettes, reverse scoop a sti splitter instead of the p1 jobby.

love the evo style no. plate too, but how does it fit on??

WRX marv 10 November 2007 01:41 AM

just guessing, but just some long bolts or double sided sticky tape or a few cable ties,it's only a number plate not rocket sience lol

i was thinking the double sided stuff too. think thats all my current no. plate on the front is held on by.

Anger 10 November 2007 11:18 AM

If its fitted like mine its one screw and some double sided tape :)

MrRA 10 November 2007 01:25 PM

For those interested, ARC make reversed scoops. They are available from japanparts.com.

DCR59 10 November 2007 05:18 PM

My track car has a FMIC and I bought a slatted vent from drmotorsport. Same idea as the carbon RCM one but a fraction of the price.

Going by the heat haze coming out of it when I get back to the pit lane, it works very well to get rid of excess heat.

joekont 08 July 2008 12:11 PM

Did anybody get a reverse scoop in the end then?
