What Gear Knob?

Fancy a change, thinking about the Prodrive alloy one, or maybe a Momo, had them in the past on other cars.

Please post pictures of what you have fitted to help me make my mind up:wonder:

Thanks
Daz

I'd steer clear of Momo, both mine and the eldest's came to bits and look crap.

Poorly made, hyped Italian crap.

Had the same MOMO knob (leather/ali) for the past 4yrs, still looks spot on.

DarrenSTI 03 November 2007 12:25 PM

As I said I've had Momo's before, and they have been fine quality wise.
Think the Prodrive one is favourite at the moment.

It can't be that bad in the summer can it?, guess you could always drape a pair of the womans knickers over it on the hot days:wonder: .

Bartop:- Seen these on Scoobyparts site, look pretty good in black, but can't really get an idea of its size, was really looking for something a little bigger than the standard size, hence the Prodrive one.

I have this one and have put silver in the O's on the top and sealed this with clear laquer.

They really are that strange in Clacton!!! Womens grundys on your Knob Darren :norty: Whatever next!!

Oh and they don't get that hot or cold really, and if u suffer it just makes u change gear quicker :thumb:

DarrenSTI 04 November 2007 03:32 PM

So it works a bit like a quick shifter then:lol1: .
All werdos down here in Clacton, a cylinder short of being a flat 4.

Do the old ones just un-screw and pull off?

alcazar 04 November 2007 07:33 PM

Momo air race: badges fall out of the centre, and the leather comes unglued. Crap.

Alcazar

powerman1 04 November 2007 08:28 PM

Yep Darren just unscrew, making sure u hold the reverse lifter down as u do so then replace with the Prodrive one

frayz 05 November 2007 11:25 AM

I want a white nylon WRC spec item like the Quaife item, but cant find any to fit the sti :(

DarrenSTI 05 November 2007 12:39 PM

I was in Halfords at the weekend and they had a Ripspeed Carbon Fibre one with flecks of blue in, looked pretty cool, but didn't look like it was for a reverse lift (they may do one), but it was only something like £25, seemed too cheap to be good quality.

DarrenSTI 05 February 2008 08:34 PM

Just to update this thread, I have now fitted a Prodrive Gear Knob, as pictured by "BodSki" cheers buddy.

v8voodoo 05 February 2008 08:44 PM

Have any of you guys seen the ones on NASIOC..?

Got a black polymer resin one with a threaded brass insert from a guy on there. Lovely piece of kit, not too cold in winter and not hot in summer either for those that worry about that sort of thing.

Frayz,
I'm damned sure he does them in white and may be what you're looking for.

I'll try and track the thread down on NASIOC and will put the link here shortly.

Nige,
Dover.

WC Lathe Werks Hand(turned) Job for your Knob!!! Woot!!! - Interior/Dressup/Audio & Security - NASIOC

He was pretty quick with the postage too.

Nige.

I went for the Richbrook Titanium version with a short gear knob shaft (after a bit of leverage I managed to get the STi gaitor to fit over the shaft for a nice factory install look).

http://www.bodykitsonline.co.uk/rb_slant6speed.JPG

http://www.bodykitsonline.co.uk/rbshortsleevenew.JPG

The Richbrook gear knob is great, goes further down on the shaft compared to the stock STi item so you get a much quicker gear shift. It's a bit fiddly to fit on at first but you just need to make sure the 3 hex nuts are adjusted equally to get a straight fit.

Then the short shaft bolts onto the gear shaft and covers the base of the gear knob. You have to stretch the gear gaitor top a little to get it to fit onto the bottom of the Richbrook shaft but worth the effort.

I'll try and get some installed pic's this weekend.
