Engine management light flashing on at high revs

Car is a JDM Impreza STi v7 (2001)

When driving the car hard and taking it up to around 7k the engine management light will flash for a split secound. Any ideas what could be causing this?

TINO.wrx 01 November 2007 08:01 PM

possibling trying to tell you not to drive so hard!!! i get sometimes wheni drive hard, think it is acting like a det sensor

Marx Mcrae 01 November 2007 10:06 PM

If you have an Apexi power FC, then you can have the engine light come on if it senses any knocking from the engine

Jolly Green Monster 01 November 2007 10:20 PM

no powerfc for the newage so not that..

is it not the shift light?? configurable on the newage sti on the display.

No Apexi power FC and it's not the shift light unfortunatly!

The light that comes on is this light http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice...n_light_72.jpg

It only comes on when driving it hard and taking it to around 7k rpm...

Possibly could be det sensor as the car hasn't been mapped for UK fuel yet?

The standard system has no facility to flash the cell for knock warning.....!

Try another cam sensor

Jolly Green Monster 02 November 2007 11:45 AM

could be a fair few.. but I'd put money on neutral position sensor..

but regardless you need to check the error codes.. needs plugging into laptop or select monitor or obd2 etc..

I get this on my bugeye MY02...... likely to be the Bugeye random CEL generator. LOL

I bet the ECU has stored / historic codes for camshaft position sensor error, Neutral position switch errors tend to throw up lots of misfire CEL's.

first thing i'd ask is what the hell are you doing revving to 7k? no need to go that high to change and drop back into the power band

MarkScoob 02 November 2007 06:52 PM

Cheers for the replys, it's going in for a service soon anyway so I'll get them to check it out on the diagnostics!

My guess would be cam position sensor as well, they were known for problems.

Yes, pretty standard V7 STi wagon. 3'' catback and K&N pod filter.

Jolly Green Monster 25 October 2012 07:08 AM

The random misfire codes can be have their sensitivity adjusted via ecutek remap.

If the car has an exhaust and filter it should be mapped anyway.

Usually see error codes for misfire cylinder X and no code. Where X is usually 1,2,3 4.

Hello everyone...
i just put a JDM V6 Sti into my GC8....
it comes together with the Apexi Power FC, just now i was testing my car... i notice when i high revving... approximate (6k rpm on ward) my check engine light keep blinking...
so does it mean something wrong with my engine or?
because i just replace my engine with crank bearings and gasket....
your all experience share will be much appreciate....
Thank you

Its picking up det. It needs mapping. You will damage the engine if you carry on driving it hard at high rpm

If you have a commander its possible I can tell you want to change to make it safer.

What ron is the fuel? How old is the fuel?
