Bluetooth messages from the Police

Just read that the police are to start using Bluetooth to send out messages regarding crimes

This one I read about is in connection with the 11 year old boy who was shot and killed in Liverpool

the story has said that the police will have a 100 metre radius, and are targetting passers-by, pedestrians and motorists and is one of the first times this will have been used in the UK

I thought bluetooth only had about a 10 metre range, however it seems it has a much bigger range if the police will have upto 100 metres, unless it is because they will be driving round in a van transmitting the messages

The BT dongle on my PC is rated at 100 metres. In the home its about 20metres when my phone is used as a remote control in media centre. So the range in feasible.

However my BT is turned off most of the time, and visibility is also off, so I like to see them try it ;).....waste of resources IMO.

Exactly... It's a stupid idea... Anyone who has bluetooth on all the time and accepts messages from unknown sources are recovering from labotomies :freak3:
