Hi there i have purchased an 02 bug eye uk car and would like to clear up what model it is . It is a wrx on log book BUT HAS WRX AND STI BADGES ON BOOT and when u hpi car it is coming up as wrx but has a lot of sti bits fitted by the factory what all does a PPP upgrade include ?? . It is a 5 speed without intercooler spray . It has RED TOP ENGINE AT LEAST THATS WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE DOESNT LOOK PAINTED IN SOMEONES SHED :cool: IS THERE AN EASY WAY OF IDENTIFYING . INTERCOOLER IS EMBOSSED WITH RED STI LETTERING
VARIOUS SOLENOIDS FUEL REGULATORS ETC UNDER BONNET ?? BOOST GAUGE FITTED TO STEERING WHEEL BOOSTS TO 1 BAR . GOLD BREMBO BRAKES ALL ROUND 18IN PRODRIVE SPEEDLINE ALLOYS . INSIDE IT HAS A MOMO WHEEL NOT STI ? HAS BLUE STI INSTRUMENT PANEL WITH CENTRAL REV COUNTER STI BLUE BLACK SEUDE SEATS AND DOOR CARDS .HAS PRODRIVE HEADLAMP UPGRADE AND LARGER REAR WING AND FRONT LOWER SPOILER . CAR IS IN IRELAND AND WAS ALLEGEDLY ORDERED LIKE THIS FROM FACTORY BUT CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY STI WASNT ORDERED AS A LOT OF MONEY HAS BEEN SPENT HAS PRODRIVE SUSPENSION EXHAUST INDUCTION KIT FILTERS ETC .

Defno a WRX as 5 Speed

STi 6 speed WRX 5 speed
Sti water cooler spray
STi front limited slip Torque Diff WRX no front limited slip diff
Sti Rev counter has gear change light and buzzer
STi model code is GDB and WRX is GDA which might be present on the identification plate under bonnet


PPP upgrade on a 02 WRX is
1) blue "Y" piece intecooler hose
2) Second Cat bypass pipe
3) Back box
4) ECU upgrade

All rest of STi bits are off a STi and not standard fitment

What bout engine is there numbers i can check ? I bought car at wrx money IMO so am happy enough with the upgrades..

It sounds like a factory WRX but with the STI engine and brakes and interior.:Suspiciou

Has it neen HPI checked ?
It sounds iffy to me but could be a genuine change of parts.
...but for what reason :wonder:

IIRC If imported it maybe true, as there were a few "Test" STi's made from WRX's, there is also a WRX wagon and simulary dressed in STi gear

Car is hpi clear will check model codes 2 morrow . After looking at that estae model noticed my car has flared front arches and same engine / intercooler as the wagon same steering wheel and sti dash etc

Probably a prototype STi modified by Subaru from a prodution WRX, This was common practice in first classic Type R's and RA's etc ;)

Isn't it a bit late on in the bugeye life for a prototype..bugeye STi's having been around for a couple of years already ?

My bugeye MY02 has plenty of STi bits fitted......long after it left the factory LOL

All UK STi bugeyes have a 6 speeed box :D

Jonspeed, Does the car have a rear wash / wipe ??

Thanks fort all comments replys etc , Car is model code gda so wrx as thought just a serious amount of money spent on sti upgrades when car was new !!
. Is there anyway i can check engine codes to see if its an sti engine ? As to me doesnt feel overly quick .

As said were some "Production WRX's" modded by STi and then the STi was put into a production run ;) but you knew what i meant :D

Bug> 04 STi(GDB) had "SureTrac" front LSD
Bug>-03 WRX(GDA) no front LSD
99% STi's (GDB) are 6peed als few Auto paddle shift JDM's were made

UK WRX bugeyes were 01 & 02........... UK bugeye STi's 02 but some JDM STi's 01 were produced.

Not sure about engine numbers, but there was a "free" parts list on disc advertised on here, which may give you something to look for ;)
