Now on 24mb ADSL2 :-)

Just thought that I would let you know about my experiences with my new ISP - BEthere.co.uk

Switched to them last Monday from my old Pipex max 8mb connection...

All I can say is I am glad I did, there customer service is fantastic - asked to get upgraded via there online ticket system and next day all was done....

I sync now at 17mb and upload sync 2.25 mb

here is a quick speed test done Saturday afternoon to a London server via speedtest.net

For anyone looking for a isp I can rate them very highly and am very impressed with the quality of service...

I know I am not mega close to the exchange so I wont get the full 24mb service but ha-ho 15mb is better than pipex 6mb and 512k up

www.bethere.co.uk

cheers

Andy

Barsteward ;) I think I need to move, BEthere laughed at me telling me not to bother as I am over 4900m from the exchange.

Woe is me :(

Yep. BeThere are very good.

I feel like infracting andy just for HAVING such a bloody fast 'net link (we need a green eyed monster smilie....) ;)

chrisowe 27 October 2007 04:19 PM

I'm guessing with that upload you must be on Be pro. I'm very jealous as I am only able to sync between 6-7mb so am on Value.
I agree they are good ISP, I've been with them since January and the only problems I have had are with my dodgy line.:thumb:

Wouldnt go with BE if your with 02 though as you get discount if you have an O2 contract of 10 quid ;) though its just the same people, just a different name (ie O2 own BE)

Tony:)

I'm still stuck on 1mb/256kb ADSL1. We cannot find a provider that has reasonable caps at a reasonable price. Currently we have 100Gb download cap per month for £29.99. Not been able to beat that yet :(

You're paying for 24meg bb but getting nowhere near that, is that something to shout about ?

If that is to the original poster ... 1.5mb/s is great and Be costs around the same as all the other 'up to 8mb' providers.

you would rarely if ever get over 20 meg I would think with ADSL2 so a 17 M/Bit sync rate is pretty decent to a household, years ago companies didn't even have that, as ever the adverising could be called misleading but provided its consistent and the like thats really good IMO:)

Whos shouting?

I am just letting people know that BE internet are a decent isp and offer good service and speed.....

why pay £20 for 8mb when you can get up to 24...

my 15-17mb is better than my old crap pipex 6mb! for the same price

The speed test site wont give you full speed, download from newsgorups and see what speed you get
Mine downloads at 2.4MB a second but shows as less than 1Mb connection

I'm on Be Internet too - very hard to fault them in any way - a rare thing in the world of ISPs! I had a text message at every stage while they were commissioning the line. Line activation was also completed ahead of schedule too!

Granted, I live about 1/2 Km from the Exchange, but I get very good speeds (normally around 17/18mb, but sometimes up above 20mb. And to cap it all I got email from them last month saying they were cutting the monthly charge by a fiver!

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised when I received that email too.

£24 down to £18

Bonus! :)

I'm just downloading two episodes of QI (via BE*) and getting 1.4mb/s ... they will be here in 4 minutes -- amazing!

Sadly some areas only get 16.4 I think it is !

Chris L 06 November 2007 10:13 AM

That's not too bad - you'll probably find in the small print that 20Mb is a theoretical maximum, much like Be

InvisibleMan 06 November 2007 11:15 AM

its says it gives you a static ip address, do you have to use this (better than dhcp?) also wouldnt it be a bad idea for getting busting on torrents?

chrisowe 06 November 2007 12:56 PM

You don't have to have a static ip address. They will still be able to trace you even if it was dynamic.
