A few years ago before Black and Wrecker took over DW, I'd say DW, but now probably Makita although Bosch and Hitachi seem OK and I like my Ryobi.

Makita along with bosch always used to be best

Makita, simple answer.

chop :)

I've got both. If it's a dirty job the DeWalt gets picked up. But if it's a tough job, the Makita is always first choice:thumb:

I don't think you can beat dewalt for the value.

pete higham 25 October 2007 06:15 PM

get a panasonic :notworthy

it is a better drill/driver than both of them :thumb:

I've got a Li-ion battery Makita and to be honest it makes the deWalt look like stone-age technology. The rubber protector strips on the outside of the drill can come away though with wear & tear :(

Also, if you go with Makita, get the two-speed as there are "issues" with the three-speed gearbox. :)

I took a punt on 2nd hand makita 14.4v from a cash converters 4 years later and it's still going great guns top quality bit of kit!!

If you go for a dewalt 18v XRT you won't be wrong. Indestructable and always my first choice of power tool. Others may seem fancy but tend to break pretty quick.

Snap-On or proffesional Hitachi seem pretty good.
