Do I have a chance of getting insurance?

Hi,

I'm looking at getting a 04ish Impreza WRX STI (grp20) but not sure if it is even worth pursuing because of the daylight robbery that is called 'insurance'.

I am 23, 5 NCB, good postcode, will be garaged, + tracker. What sort of price would I be looking at? Is it worth being laughed at by insurance call centres?

Get in touch with MoleyWRX on here. He's Gary Moulson who is the Subaru specialist for Keith Michaels Insurance, and if he can't help you then forget it until your 25, at least :D Get a quote from A-Plan too.

jinxxxy 21 October 2007 12:21 AM

Thanks, I have been reading some of the praise he has received on the forums and he will be my first port of call I think!

The pretty sure the rest of my details are fine until I mention my age (25>) as I hardly do any miles in a car either as I ride a R6 mainly!

dont see why not,a guy in my local cruise scene is 22 and has written off an evo 4 and then bought an evo 5 and 200 sx,i wonder how they do it sometimes

i had an 03 blobeye STI when I was 22, insurance is high but you can get insured... i recommend Bell Direct.. thats who im with now on my 06 STI, im 24 and the insurance is very reasonable!

Wiseman to price insurance first, before buying. Also factor in the running costs as well, servicing etc.

Then see if the Impreza is for you.

Good Luck :thumb:

How much did you pay at 22 if you don't mind me asking?

either no insurance or 3rd party??

there was a day when insurance companies wouldn't insure a scoob (etc) to under 25's

Just ran my details through elephant online.....

£1584.45

Bit pricey, I would prefer to pay <£1000 ideally, but at least I have a starting point and they actually gave me a quote! Where did I put the yellow pages....

JamesVTS 21 October 2007 08:23 PM

not too bad..... elephant, bell, admiral all same company ;) bell sometimes cheaper tho...

Kenny P 21 October 2007 08:27 PM

im 28 next month 9 years ncb and im looking to buy a impreza. a wrx sti prodrive comes at a 1000 quid. a p1 is 1600. thats through confused.com is this the normal price you guys pay?

Yeh, offered almost identical prices when I ran it through confused.com but still coming up £1500ish. Just not sure if I can justify spending that much on insurance! I thought £1400 for my first car was going to be the most I would ever spend! Will have to try out some of the old favorites, like adding the old fokes to the insurance, hiking up the excess and just generally shopping around... wish me luck! :lol1:

Im 28 and when i renewed my insurance when i was still 27 amd 9years NCB a few months ago on my 05 STi prodrive it was £750.

Im happy with that. Admiral.

So your quotes are high.

Northern Nick 21 October 2007 08:39 PM

Get married, buy the wife a WRX STi, and get her to insure it with your money and be a named driver, thats how mine works :lol1:

Look out for some of these companys you all mention, most want insure mods and some dont insure imports. Well worth checking ;)

phhhh! That sounds even mooore expensive!! Plus they isn't any chance of the mrs getting behind the wheel! :nono:

Kenny P 21 October 2007 09:10 PM

how come a p1 is 600 more than a wrx sti prodrive though?

Northern Nick 21 October 2007 09:24 PM

I did note that when I got insurance for my MY02 STi, if it had have been a prodrive, it would have cost £100 less for some reason?

i think admiral, bell and elephant are as good as your going to get as they are the same company.. i did alot of shopping around and these were the cheapest by far! alot wouldnt insure me!.. i think £1,500 is a good quote for you to be honest!! a 18 year old girl i know who has a ford KA for her first car has insurance costing £1200 a year!

typerchris 22 October 2007 08:53 AM

I'm 23 and i have owned my Type r for coming on 3 years now. I have always gone through Gary Moulson at Keith Meicles and he has always got me the best price possible out there. I'm now paying £1200 which is awesome compared to anyone.

noobyscooby 22 October 2007 09:17 AM

You don't need a wife, just put your mother on the insurance - it was worth 20% on my son's policy:luxhello: .

And if you have named driver access to other cars like work, Dad, brother, say so and as many as legitimately possible:norty: .

I used to think it was none of the insurers' business until I got a chunk of money off when I said 4 cars in the same household!;)

Nolan_WRX 22 October 2007 09:54 AM

Yeah def put others on the policy,
im 23 and got a 05wrx and am paying about £1550ish with elephant.co.uk, came down to that from around £2000 by adding my dad as named driver and by paying it in one go aswell, and i have 3yrs ncb.
Am looking quietly for a cheaper quote for when this runs out, not getting much luck for much cheaper, think it will go down alot after 25 tho. by the sounds of it i will give Gary Moulson at Keith Meicles a ring because most are praising them for cheaper insurance on here.

scoobyste1987 22 October 2007 06:45 PM

wtf!!! im 20 and clean liscense but no ncd cus of always being a named driver, i pay £2500 tpft on a sport!!! thinking of getting a turbo aswell but i will defo try gary first as he seems to be able to get unbelievably cheap insurance.
