STi 3, 4, 5 & 6.. what are the differences?

Hi,

I am curerntly hunting for a classic scooby however I am a bit confused on the variants out there.

What is a good spec to go for in term's of driving and future upgrades? I have been looking at import STi's starting with version 3's and going up however I am not sure what the differences are up to version 6.

Also how do the Type RA and V555 Limited compare to the above?

I had a look at a nice RB5 today, very well kept however they are not the most powerful engines so I feel I wouldn't have a good base engine to start from (correct me if I am wrong here)?

Thanks in advance,

Fz

Well, the version 4 is better than the version 3.
The 5 is better than the 4, which in turn is better than the 3
The 6 is better than the 5, which is better that the 4, which well....it will come of no surprise is better than the 3 :lol1:

Sorry, could not resist. I am not that clued up on all the differences, but I believe the 5 and 6 are similar and both are facelift models. The 3 and 4 are the slightly different older style.

Aside from the front splitter and rear spoiler the only way I know how to tell the difference between a v5 and a v6 is that you need to have the clutch down on the v6 to start the car.

v3 would have the older dash, v4 5 and 6 have the same dash (ie.newer).

subaru changed the struts to inverted ones in v5 and 6, the suspension gets harder/harsher as the versions go up (something to be very aware of with the UK roads, unless you go on and change the springs to eibachs)

Torque also increases slightly with the versions...and so will the price...:D

hope this helps
