Driving me bonkers
My speakers on my PC.
They 'hum' and make a noise when, say, you scroll through a window (in time with the scrolling). It's not the speakers as I have just bought some new - and these do it as well. Turning the volume down obviously helps a bit ... but, it's still there. Clearly they are picking up what the PC is up to - any ideas? |
sheilding or lack of is probably the cause
is it a cheap soundcard ? |
Creative Soundblaster ??

You could try swapping the cards around in your PC
Ive done this in the past and move it away from the GFX card slot I have also seen some people put tin foil in between the soundcard to try and shield it somehow Have you tried a different audio cable from the PC to speakers ? it could be that |
Also are you using the headphone out on the card instead of the line out
as the headphone out has a 4w amp /preamp which will increase noise |
The cable is a new one with the new speakers.
The soundcard is part of the Motherboard .... checked the socket - looks like the speaker outlet |
dumb question but one that needs checking - have you got a CRT or an LCD monitor Pete?
If it is a CRT how close are the speakers to the screen? Poorly shielded screens can cause this issue. |
Thanks for the thought ..... I have an LCD.
The noise is like a scraping noise whenever I move my mouse ..... |

The noise is like a scraping noise whenever I move my mouse ..... are they powered speakers? mine are noisy when powered, but will work ok when run with no power (they have a headphone socket built in) try plugging them into another pc so see if it makes a difference, it may be the soundcard is dying.. Cheers Mart ... they are mains powered ... the lead is new, so the connector is new too.

Go into your audio preferences (double click on speaker next to clock, or open sound & audio devices > advanced from within control panel) and mute every channel apart from the main output and wave so you can still hear music.
This should work, it worked for me with the same symptoms. |
Thanks for that - I did just as you said - muted the channels other than wave and main volume .... seems better :thumb:
