2005 Hawkeye STi JDM for £13,250 good deal?

Hello everyone,

I'm looking to buy my first subaru having owned focus st's and civic type-rs over the past few years.

I noticed an ad on ebay this week for a JDM model.

Here's the link

2005 Subaru Impreza WRX 2.0 Turbo STi 1300 Miles - eBay Subaru, Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 07-Nov-07 08:28:03 GMT)

The seller is hsc-cars who I have checked out and seems to be ok. I have sent them an email and recieved a polite reply telling me the car is a fresh import from japan and is waiting for registration.

Does this look to good to be true, or are JDMs selling for around that price?

I do like the look of it :D

That's what I'm thinking....if something seems too good to be true...

The bloke did say he didnt have a problem with me running experian checks and getting the AA/RAC out to do one of their healthchecks

steve0 12 October 2007 11:14 AM

Does seem a bit too cheap to be true! Although, if he's prepared for you to have it inspected by the AA/RAC; it cant be bad, surely? :wonder:

magicgreg 12 October 2007 11:17 AM

Far too cheap for my liking...

charis_sti 12 October 2007 11:21 AM

261hp? wtf?

pippyrips 12 October 2007 11:23 AM

1300 miles?

Highly likely when you call they will say its a mis-print and give you an inflated figure. Good way for them to get talkiing to you though.

Clubbi 12 October 2007 11:50 AM

As above seems way too cheap. :wonder:

That will have DCCD-A, twin scroll turbo, equal length headers etc and be pushing 310/320bhp, not 261bhp. :thumb:

If you go to see the car take someone who knows sti's with you. All for a bargain, but blobeye 04 JDM Sti's are going for more than that with higher mileages. :norty:

GazTheHat 12 October 2007 11:54 AM

Good deal? **** yeah. If it's genuine, a bargain.

The Hoff 12 October 2007 12:13 PM

Its doesnt say is a JDM version. It simply says that its been registered overseas which may means its been imported from Holland or the like.

With 260 bhp its certainly not a JDM.

Rear wiper. ;)

Cad Monkey 12 October 2007 12:42 PM

That footwells pretty dirty considering it has only done 1300 miles :wonder:

glen8 12 October 2007 01:04 PM

I emailed the bloke who said it has just come in from Japan

don't know what to do

magicgreg 12 October 2007 01:17 PM

Not for me that one fella, I'd avoid it.

Googled them and found this, may be helpful, only appears to have started trading in June.

T5NYW 12 October 2007 01:29 PM

OTR price that would be VERY good ;)

The Standard JDM is normally 300bhp and remapped for UK fuel 327 bhp, looks like they've got detail of a 2.0ltr UK/EU car. But defimnately a JDM

It' only 25 miles form my place too, were is my cheque book LOL

Their website shows the car with 1500 miles.

Strange to have 2 mileage mistakes :wonder:

AlanPPP 12 October 2007 01:46 PM

maybe not mistake ;)
first milage Import/ auction miles
Second actual milage after driven from docks to VESA test and then to Glouster ;)

Maybe, just maybe they actually dont know the cars true worth, although that is a long shot!!
As dealers they have to give you a standard 3 month warranty as well.

Also telling people on here is opening up the market a bit more and some unscrupolous punter might be trying to buy it as we speak, lol.

Good luck though.

I did think that, but thought better safe than sorry so asked the experts :notworthy

IMHO this is a better car than a UK one.

You may find Jap suspension a bit hard for UK drivng, so get Prodrive spring kit fitted, also lowers it and 4Whell aligment done about £5-600. Remap for UK fuel £5-600 not completely nesscary ;) but will perform better.

Better still get a good exhaust system on it and then remap, 350-360bhp and it's a hoot to drive.

Enjoy, BTW ask to see the Auction Appraisal sheet should be a auction grade 5 or 5.5 for this year and milage ;) heres some good info from Simon ;)

The auction grade will be clearly marked in the top right hand corner of the appraisal sheet. You are looking for a '4' as a minimum and ideally a '4.5' - '5.5'. Grades such as '0', 'A1' & 'R' indicate a 'repair history' car and should be avoided.

If the vendor doesnt have the auction appraisal sheet, then I wouldnt consider buying the car. This is likely to be either because the car has a low grade / repair history or because the car was bought from a docks auction here in England (docks auction cars are usually poor grades, spammed up for sale here). There is no good reason for a genuine importer not to have the appraisal sheet, in fact, I will go further and say that the appraisal sheet forms a substantial part of the vehicle's provenance.

I bet you still need to add the import duty etc to that price. Seems way too cheap for me.

GazTheHat 12 October 2007 05:30 PM

Go and see it, before someone pulls it from under you.

I know if it was white/black. I'd be calling them myself. :norty:

Terminator X 12 October 2007 06:26 PM

I predict that it's either (a) not a JDM (b) is a JDM & there is something wrong with it eg accident damage, clocked mileage etc. It's too cheap to be a 05 JDM with 1300 miles on the clock.

TX.

His feed back on ebay makes good reading, may just be genuine.

Nothing from people who have bought from him - only what he has bought from others

Well you learn somthing new everyday :)

Having been a bit silly and been stung by a seller on ebay before (nowhere near the amount of money involved here though) i'd say leave it - it really does sound too good to be true.

Go and have a look anyway and do your homework on the model it claims to be. I don't know enough about the JDM's to be able to give you any advice myself but even i know it should be more than 261bhp. Clarify eveything that he claims and take it from there.

T5NYW 12 October 2007 08:01 PM
