Because that was the only times it wasn't raining  LOL except for mini heat wave when we were going home :( I had a great day and only 2 spins ;) Tony |
what day was that as im only up the road about 5 mins away:cry:
|
I was scooting the wrong way deliberatly to get a bit of variety in the morning!
Hurky, the day was 9 10 07 and it was a private test day arranged with Shenstone Car Club. I intend to run one again in Spring 2008 for a few serious players. Graham. |
Great stuff matey, I was up there about a month or so ago for my first actual trackday experience and had a great time, looks a lot more slippery than when I was there though!
|
It was made worse by the patches of puddles/damp/dry/puddles/puddles etc all round the track.
It was most slippy when 'damp' as is always the case in hillclimbs/sprints. Good game nonetheless! |
Definately varying conditions ;) seemed to have more grip it the wet than Damp (RE070's) Keeping tyre pressures constant was a key factor ;)
Graham (911) slicks had more grip in the wet than our road tyres  (thanks for the Passenger ride :D On my last session still had grip issues on the First bend but awesome around the circuit had really dried out :D:D but home time :( but nice to tweak suspension and see resultsm, never quite sure how it would react on the first corner. |
I agree Tony that the first corner at curb is quite scary really. Hard to commit when you know a tyre wall and a grass bank is beckoning.
Mind you, you dont seem to shy away from either of those ;) On mostly standard suspension mine did not want to go round that corner at any more than 55-60mph and when i got it wrong there was a nice tank slapper to contend with, hence the trip round the circuit the wrong way:D |
I can remember hitting that first sweeping right in my 911 in my early days far too fast and LIFTING OFF suddenly....
Talk about spinning backwards (911's are ace at that trick) The corner has always had light grip compared to the rest of it, but it is a good place to loon about at. :D |

For one minute I thought Graham (911) was a nobber ;) sorry mate. I was gobsmacked when He took wet tyres off and went to slicks :freak3: during a downpour !!! I thought his car would end up in every tree and tyre wall on the track ;) but fair doo's it had terriffic handling :luxhello: :thumb: Tony |
Hmm.. yes i have been sat here pricing up all the handling mods for my car.
Better get off to work to pay for some of them! |
I think the down-to-canvas slicks gripped better than the road tyres!
As the track dried though they came in and the grip was all there...most od the time. All a good bit of fun. The day was originally in response to a 'suggestion' by Powerstation to have a test day for AST suspended cars only to allow Curtis to help tweek customers cars. At one point I had 11 cars, but those soon dropped off to 4 of us who wanted to run reasonably hard. A spring time 'meeting' of Snetters would work well and not just Imprezas. A mix of road and race would be better still so some get an insite to how these cars are when tweeked. I was thinking late April, but must be mid week. a day hire is £450 so 10 cars would be about right. That is a lot of running time and keeps it relaxed. |
