Nurbergring - Insurance
 

Iv done a search on her, about your insurance on the ring, most ins companys do not include the ring on your policy, so is there a day insurance you can buy for when you go to the ring? if something happened, id rather claim off a seperate ins policy thn my policy with NCB

Anybody in the know how?

Not 100% sure about this but i dont think you need track day insurance as its a public road:wonder: :wonder: Dont take my word for it though.

Says that most aren't turned down for claims as it is a public road. Plus the ring does have speed limits so the "derestricted toll road" can be challenged. The question is are you fully comp or does it just apply to limited third party cover.

If you don't tell your insurance company you are going abroad chances are you might not be fully comp on the ring or not! I know i had to let my insurers know i was going abroad to get my full bike cover when i went to the ring recently. Read your policy documents, it will all be in there.

Yes the RING is a public road, I'm sure if you read the small print on your policy, you'll find out, you are not covered.

Something to do with 'racing.....'

Im insured with Adrian flux, fully comp which includes europen cover along with my break down cover.

I was only intrested in another policy if it was just a one off fee like £250 but not if i had to pay an excess aswell, think ill just use my own ins and be carfull!

If you take out a seperate insurance you can be sure there will be a large excess as well. You really cant blame the insurers for that now can you?

Insurers are getting wise to the Nurburgring's 'public road' status and several are adding a specific exclusion in their policy small print, naming the place and road number as being excluded from the coverage of the policy

Exactly, its why you should read the docs and call to clarify. Technically, if you aren't insured then you shouldn't be on there at all should you?

Again, worth checking on overseas coverage, you may find that you are only 3rd party in europe if you don't tell them in advance you are going, fully comp or not.

I have checked my doc's and the ring is not on there as an exclusion zone, i will deffo ring up to comfirm tho
When we go, we are planning on a drive through a few other countries, so will have to check that im insured n all of them.

I was quoted £595 for weekend cover (Fri-Mon) when I went back in June. This was with a £1100 excess to cover my car worth £8500.
That's all it covers too, my car. I'd still have to pay for recovery and the barrier damage. In the end I went without.

MORIS :: motorsport race & rally insurance services is who quoted me. I've used them for trackday cover and they are usually reasonable.

Also remember those that time themselves and can be proven to do so (inc camcorder footage) my be risking voiding their insurance and that includes trackday insurance. It doesn't cover you for racing, time trials or testing.

Check the small print on your break down cover, I heard the likes of the AA and RAC exclude recovery from the ring :Suspiciou

If you can't afford to crash, then don't go.

But... you're not "racing" - this is expressly forbidden. Also, you're not "time-trialing" as timing yourself is also technically not allowed.....

Yea thats another thing to look at too, i was going to start a new breakdown cover, because mine gives my upto £2000 worth of breakdown cover, which means if i need toeing back, it could clock up quite a heafty bill.

Its not that i cant afford to crash, its a matter of trying to take preacusions, so if i did, thn hopefully i could narrow the costs down abit :norty:

Insur: "What is the Ring?"

Phil: "It's a historic racetrack that's now a one way derestricted toll road"

Insur: "Ah that one, no! And we'll exclude it in writing from now on"

They will wonder why you are asking about a toll road and it won't take a genius to work out what you are talking about, but you carry on if it makes you feel better...

You'll just be adding another insurer to the list that now excludes the Ring specifically.

Don't bother with the ring it is toooooo much hassle just get on a derestricted autobahn and plant your right foot!!! more fun, safer and you are insured :D just watch out for slower cars!!! so really no difference to being on the ring, and you don't have to pay a fortune to use the Autobahn like you do one lap of the ring which also has noise restrictions on it aswell.

I agree. The Ring is just too dangerous and expensive. Play elsewhere.

Just for a thought:

cheapest and safest way to go around the ring. Buy GTR 2 racing game for the PC and download the Ring track of internet which is free.

or

If u got an xbox 360 their is always forza motorsports 2, which has a nice selection of scoobys innit as well as the ring. well its the next best thing to actually being their. plus its cheaper and safer.

Then again its just a thought.lol

No see link i posted at the top. The ring has speed limits in two places and people have been done for speeding there!

Also if you crash that's what the Police fine you for. They did my mate on the evidence he crashed and so was going too fast. Bit tricky to argue derestricted when you are holding a speeding ticket in your hand!!
