Excessive oil use?

I've got a 52 wrx and i'm getting through about a litre of oil every 1500-2000miles, there's no visible leaks and the exhaust is smoke free, any ideas? I'm sure i've seen a thread on here somewhere about oil consumption but can't seem to find it.?

By normal road car standards, that's excessive!
With that much disappearing you would certainly expect to see some evidence!
Front and rear crank seals, cam covers etc?

if theres no visible oil then the rear crank seal is a favourite

my my02 wrx has alway lost oil about 1/2 litre every 1k miles never found the reason - the cars now got 40k on the clock and running close to 400 bhp and still the oil consumption stays the same

if its just started doing it i would be worried

It's been like it since i bought it 18 months ago. On the positive side it keeps the oil clean. Will get the tray off this weekend and have a good look round. Cheers.

My 02 wrx was losing about one litre every 2000 miles.
No leaks or smoke though.
My present 2.5 l. STI uses none at all.
F*cked if I can figure it out.
I guess when you think about what it is expected to do, it is no surprise that some gets washed and burnt off the bores.

If it's not a silly question, how do you drive it?

Assuming you give it lots, try running gently for 1,500 miles to see if it affects the consumption. I'm guessing it runs slightly smokey getting worse at high revs - try to check your mirrors at night when someone is following and you've hit high revs - you'll almost certainly see a haze.
