help confused about checking oil
when is best to check your engine oil, when its cold i get full on dipstick and after running for 20 secs i get low. on my brothers he gets low on cold and after running he has full, someone please tell me the way
from cold, if you check it when youve turned over the engine its pumped some oil around the engine and you wont get the true reading
ok good so the reading i get thats full before i even put key to car is good, phew! so many stories floating about of once yours oil lights on it too late and all that crap, i check oil once a week and it is always full but my bro has to put a litre in a month i do more miles and we both have 04 blobs weird!
just reading a thread on search and they say its sumtimes better to check when hot as oil expands.
Leave oil to settle for a few hours, preferably overnight to allow the oil to settle back to the sump.
There are 2 marks on the dipstick. The hole shows full when cold and the higher notch shows maximum when hot.
Best to check when cold, although if yours is anything like mine, I get totally different readings on either side of the dipstick! |

Check it first thing in the morning after a night of it standing for best results.
