Can I do an oil change on my scooby?
I've done a 1000 oil changes before, but when I first got my impreza I read that you had to be extra careful when changing the oil as if you didn't do it in a specific way, you could cause engine damage?
Do I really have to put in half the oil first, then some how manually crank the engine then add the rest etc.....? Or can I just remove oil and filter. Put on new filter and fill? Cheers guy's |
I've serviced mine since I got it...
I just drain from the sump plug, then remove the filter, clean up arond the filter seating area, replace filter, then sump plug, the refill.... Done it that way for the last 3-4 years Never had any issues with mine :thumb: |

Found this for you this is the old fashioned non-pslewis or Mark B4 approved way of doing it.
Never done it myself so can't really offer any further help. |
I always do mine myself, xtreme told me that you should pre-fill the oil filter before you fit it so I do, but the rest is as normal :thumb:

Cheers chaps :)

I do it the complely anal way.. but then i would. :D
-Run engine to temp. -Drain hot oil -Remove oil filter and discard. -Clean all areas to a clinical finish. -Pre fill new oil filter and allow to stand for about 10min and refil. (the level will drop) -Smear a thin film of new oil on the oil filter seal and refit. -Tighten sumpplug with new washer. -Refill engine oil to max dipstick level. -Unplug the crank position sensor. -Crank the engine in 10 sec bursts untill the oil pressure light no longer illuminates. -Refit the plug on the crank sensor. -Start the engine for 10 secs. -Recheck oil level and add as required. :thumb: |

I'd use the Zak method but I know he's busy and to be honest it quite like the stupid satisfaction of doing it. :)
Just need to find some cheap oil now and a Halfords filter ;) |
cooking oil is spot on and cheaper.
just wash your old filter out with soapy water and reuse.... dont bother with the washer, its a waste of 40p (disclaimer : i cannot be held responsible for anyone adopting the above technique) |
