Halo 3 skulls

just started on Heroic and found a skull, right at the beginning of sierra 117.
do you pick it up as it just stays there
game is paused so quick response would be appreciated as the checkpoints dont let you back lol.

Pick it up and you will have collected 1 of the skulls (there are 13 to collect)

redxiii 02 October 2007 09:17 PM

cheers mate, i knew i needed to pick it up but wasn't sure how, hold right bumper :brickwall

Theres also 4 hidden gold skulls, collect all 4 and they will give you extra armor in multiplayer mode.

The first gold skull is on the first mission, just where you run to the coastline at the start to meet the enemy, jump up and go as far right as you can onto the rocks at the coast, theres one there.

I have all the silver and gold skulls, took me a while though!

There are 9 hidden gold (which give achievements) and 4 silver, the one at the start on the coast is silver :)

spent 20 minutes running around with the skull in my hands wondering whether I needed to carry it to the end of the level.

I think we've all done that mate, no you don't, once you've picked it up it counts, just throw it away.

Once you've completed the game you get to play the campaign levels again, but this time you can play with scoring turned on, and you get to enable the various skulls you've collected so far. You need the skulls to increase your score, they basically make the game harder by doing various things, so the more you enable the more score you get.

myblackwrx 03 October 2007 08:38 AM

The hardest/silliest one to get is when you meet the Prophet of Truth when he's about to fire Halo.

Most of the gold ones are pretty well hidden - so very sly... got 7 of the 9 so far...

bob269 03 October 2007 12:13 PM

Skulls give a 1.5x multiplier.

I played Sierra 117 lastnight scoring 11907.

Difficulty Bonus 1x (Normal mode)
Skull Bonus x3 (2 skulls enabled)
Subtotal = x4
Time bonus x2.5 (finished in 18mins)

Total x10

So it looks like it adds the difficulty + skulls then multiplies that by the time.

However, i scored around 4-5k when i finished, so how it works out the x10 i've no idea, because that would mean i scored 1190.

On one of the levels, possibly the flood level i cant really remember.

It starts quite dark and and you run towards two buildings, if you look up onto the roof of the right building theres an enemy holding the skull, you only have about 20 seconds to snipe him before he runs away!

Had something similar - tried Tsavo highway on normal - got the gold skull, activated the one that removes the radar and shot right through the level scoring 3900 before multiplyers, but my ending total was still 3900 at the end :cuckoo: buggered if I can work it out...

Anyway - I'm on the terminals now...

I started the terminals from the Ark level and played to the end, got all 7 but it didnt register, unless i died at one point and forgot to reactivate a terminal, dont really fancy starting the game from scratch unless they can be got when i do co-op legendary.

InvisibleMan 03 October 2007 02:24 PM

do they only appear when you have the scoring mode on?

I would imagine so, anyways, as luck would have it i've just checked on bungie.net and the campaign scoring was on the news feed page.

Bungie.net : Inside Bungie : News

This explains it all :thumb:

Sorry didnt read your post properly, they are on the game from the start, regardless of mode you play.

messiah 03 October 2007 02:55 PM

You can go for the skulls in any order but you must be on normal setting or higher and start the level from the beginning - they wont appear if you begin from a checkpoint.

With the terminals, I've heardof a few people being caught out by them, as you have to access all the information on them - basically keep going with it until the screen scrambles and goes red.

bob269 03 October 2007 03:04 PM

Could be that, a couple i got bored and closed them while they were still displaying the data.

bob269 03 October 2007 04:25 PM

Ok it appears that the skull and difficulty multiplier are applied at game level, so the kill is multiplied up real-time and the final total is multiplied by only the time bonus, this will relate more to the score i got above, having scored around 4760 in game and receiving 2.5x time bonus = 11900
