why are impreza head lights so dim ???

hi on my95 wrx import ive got 98 crystal head lights fitted and my lights are dim well i think so any way, i took the old original lights out thinking these newer ones mite be better but there not, any ideas how to make them better other than fitting 100w / 70w bulbs? :wonder:

dan83590 30 September 2007 10:05 PM

I'd check the earthing point first. I have crystal lights and mine are fine. Not as good as modern cars of today are, but no worse than anything I've driven before.

jturbo 30 September 2007 10:08 PM

ive checked all the earths and cleaned them, ive never driven a car with such bad lights in all my life any body would think there 6volt :lol1: ive got an old vintage car and the lights on that are better than these,

dan83590 30 September 2007 10:16 PM

Do you know what voltage is being fed to each headlight?

dan83590 30 September 2007 10:18 PM

BTW I've fitted Hyper White bulbs, or summut like that from Eblag.

The headlights are near enough useless because their size/ shape and reflector design are rubbish ( on all classics at any rate ). On my 2000 car I've put brighter bulbs in such as Ring (from A1 motor stores) or Halfords own brand 50% brighter efforts which make the lights only acceptable. Putting higher wattage bulbs in would be risky without mods to the wiring loom and /or relays. Try the brighter bulbs, if you still aren't happy then you'll have to change the lights complete for an upgrade kit. How daft was it on this type of car to fit such crap lights and brakes?

just what i was thinking a fast car with no abs not that i want that any way takes the fun out of driven, but the lights should be one thing that was bright cos at high speed and cant see thats not good :lol1: thanks for ya help guys il see what i can do about bulbs, you say they make a brighter bulb surely that must be more watts? :wonder:

I have passed 2 MOT's with these fitted and they were a great step up from the dross bulbs originally in there:

I didn't pay that much ;) Impulse buy at JAE though.
