How to copy files in Windows

OK. Trying to copy a load of files (10GB worth) from one machine to another.

Starts copying ok, after a while it stops as there's a file with Access Is Denied. Fine, no problem but the copy stops!!! And stops at EVERY one so I can't just delete as I go along as it'll take ages.

I don't mind the access denied files not copying but HOW do I get XP to copy all the files, ignoring those it can't copy?

I'm guessing using command line? but would rather know if there's an XP way.

there must be free ware tools, but i think opus directory 9 would do the trick.

I always use xcopy *.* /s /h /e /c copies everything including system hidden files and folders, empty folders and skips files it cant copy

xcopy of course - not sure if it would bug out on an 'access denied' - opus will copy these files to a temp dir and when you restart auto copy them to finish the job (if you set that option)

I'd try robocopy. Gives you a lot more options than xcopy :)

just found this...

Copy your files faster with TeraCopy

will check it out.

I was actually looking for confirmation that readyboost makes file copy quicker in vista.

xcopy doesnt bug out on anything it gets stuck on, as long as you use the switch /c (continue on error) :D

You can use that, or place the hard drive as a secondary drive on another machine and copy the files from there.
