Flipped my type r

Hi people,

I have been after a scooby for ages and i finally got a lovley sti type r running 330bhp loads done to it and a stunning looking car, well on the drive home and manage to somehow spin it on a roundabout, hit the curb and flip it into a ditch!! i cant belive it im still in shock. The worst thing is i wasnt insured as my insurance company was shut on sunday so i was planning to do it monday morning. Im so gutted the car is completley f*cked, the engine seems ok its just the body, the roof is caved in one one side all the lights are smashed and most of the right hand side is f*cked! so bascially i have lost the car. would it cost a lot to get a new shell for the car and have everything moved over or would i be better to sell the car as it is for parts? or any other suggestions would be a great help thanks.

Matt

blimey, as long as you are OK mate, that's the main thing i guess.

dont expect sympathy on here for:-

1. being a cock round a roundabout
2. being uninsured

onwards and upwards.... :)

in answer to your question though, i would strip the car and sell the bits, if you have space....

Mainmatt 19 September 2007 05:14 PM

well i did explain why i had no insurance, it was only for the drive back not like i drive around with no insurance, im sure a lot of people have driven a car home with no insurance for that day only.

WRX_Dazza 19 September 2007 05:14 PM

these things happen dude. and nothing you will hear on this forum can turn the clock back.

as above, just edited to suggest stripping the car and selling the intact bits (interior, dash, switches, wheels, engine, gearbox, diff, suspension etc... )basically anything that unbolts....!!!

hopefully it wont be too painful and remember its only a car!!! ;)

:)

Mainmatt 19 September 2007 05:16 PM

ok thats cool, i thought that might be the best option, i have someone coming to look at it tonight they might be interested in taking the lot as it is

bluenose172 19 September 2007 05:19 PM

No sympathy from me what so ever. For one, you were driving it for the first time and should have been driving carefully. Two, you should of done what any other sensible person would have done, go see the car, decide to buy, then leave a deposit and come back through the week once insurance is sorted out.

Its not the first scooby i have had, and i have been driving performance cars for over 5 years now, i had done a few roundabouts on the way back quicker, and this particular one i wasnt even going that fast. I swapped the impreza for another car and the deal had to be done that day really as the chap i did the deal with works away a lot.

RedScoob 19 September 2007 05:54 PM

That's bad news mate. Glad that you're ok though, the only thing that you can really do is part out the car and put it down to experience. At least it won't affect your no-claims.....

this is true ive did myself although i was being extra extra carefull just to get her home you must have either been showing off of going too fast or maybe both im sure its a though lesson but suck it up for being a numpty.:(

Mainmatt 19 September 2007 06:45 PM

yeah i know it has taught me a lesson to be more careful and from now on i will always insure a car before driving it. Well i have someone interested in the car, i also have an apexi power fc and commander, and an apexi avcr in blakc if anyones interested??

Triple X 19 September 2007 06:55 PM

Nightmare, bad luck, judgement whatever....

First time in a Type R?

Somewhat different handling to the UK, open diff can bite big time if your not expecting it.

20withascooby 19 September 2007 06:57 PM

unlucky u shua been more carufl nt try driffting it around roundabouts in the dry coz u will jsut go into them lol no insurance aswelll jeeeez id act wanna die paying that muney for a car and ****ing up on way home

Mainmatt 19 September 2007 07:01 PM

yeah ive never driven a type r before, the chap did explain about it being more rwd but he said with the adjustable diff and 10% torque going to the front its very hard to get the back end out on the dry

Triple X 19 September 2007 07:04 PM

Obviously he wasnt trying hard enough.

nik52wrx 19 September 2007 07:16 PM

Speak for youself, i tend not to leave it to the last minute.
What would you have done if you had hit another driver who only had 3rd party fire and theft?
Is the law involved?

Not the end of the world . . . Your ok and the only thing hurt is your pride We've all done silly things one way or another, sometimes we get away with it sometimes we dont! Live and Learn dude.

If you haven't decided already i'd break the car.

Matt

PaulC72 19 September 2007 07:17 PM

Just curious how much you scrapped in value of the car?

You should also consider yourself lucky that the police didn't turn up as it would be a far worse situation, the main thing is you are ok, you can get a new car, but just do the insurance first :)

Lessons learnt.

Mainmatt 19 September 2007 07:20 PM

the police did turn up as someone called them, and they know i have no insurance so i have a producer. someone came to look at the car earlier and made me an offer of 2500 which isnt to bad at least i can get another car with that

Mainmatt 19 September 2007 07:24 PM

oh the value of the car was about 8k

rooferman 19 September 2007 07:27 PM

Dccd strikes again........bad luck, but at least your o.k

top_fuel 19 September 2007 07:29 PM

if the law was not notified, cant you still purchase insurance and state the claimed date of accident a few days after initial real accident date?

HOOPS78 19 September 2007 07:33 PM

8k:eek: down the bog bet that hurts more than the crash did:)

Zona 19 September 2007 07:37 PM

Bad luck, no point kicking him whilst hes down.

That car wasnt meant for you mate, next 1 might be ;)

Mainmatt 19 September 2007 07:39 PM

the police turned up and asked if i had insurance so i was honest and told them no. yes it does mate, id rather a few injuries and have the car ok

Go to court - 6 points on licence and hefty fine
Police could have seized the car under no insurance

WetPatch 19 September 2007 08:03 PM

The bottom line is u shouldnt of been on the road with no insurance. No ifs or buts. What if u had hit someone when rallying around roundabout on public roads.
