foam lance

I have used my foam lance 4 times now and I am thinking about ditching it in favor of the gilmor as the lance is a s.o.d to put onto my the end of my karcher gun, the snow does not seam to last very long even when I turn the little red dial.

The tip of the lance comes off very easily when trying to either attach it or remove it. It also leaks a little.

So whay is the foam lance that bit better than the gilmor. It is a pressure thing?
cheers,
Darren

which foam lance have you got?

SC008Y_MAD 18 September 2007 02:33 PM

errr...hold on

this one Elite Car Care - Elite Foam Lance - Karcher fitment & Free 1lt Snow Foam

you may need to make a little adjustment to the end of the karcher triger gun. there's something on DW about howe to do it. also how much ssf are you using in it? in my 1litre bottle version i put 3 squirts of ssf and 3 of megs hyper wash topped up with cold water. use warm water for extra foam.

it does sound like you could do with elite having a look at it as it shouldn't leak at all. imo these lances give far better foam than a gilmor (sp)

have you got any pics of the foam your lance produces? mine is the heavy duty version and it gives this sort of foam:

takes about 10 mins for the foam to run off the car.

I put about 6-7mm of the SSF in the bottle and add warm water.
I am still using their (elite car cares) free bottle of SSF.

The only pics I have are these from my last wash...

Perhpas IF I was to get some megs hyper wash, that might solve the issue of foaming.

Edit: have you got that link about this on DW at all?

V4JDMSTi 18 September 2007 03:09 PM

that's not bad foam and much more than you'll get out of the gilmour. i do tend to use a fair bit more ssf, but then i'll use a whole litre bottle of mixture per car, esp something like the jag above.

i'll try and find you the link. :thumb:

oh, one other thing how do you have the end of the foam lane set? so it comes out in a jet or a big fan? i find that this depends how much foam you get as well.

oh and just one more, the more protection layers on your paint surface the faster the foam will run off. on my scoob the foam runs off in about 5 mins. the jag took nearly 20!

SC008Y_MAD 18 September 2007 06:26 PM

Ok thanks for that.

I have the end nossle set so it it a fan type of thing. It does run off rather easiler with the amount of wax on the paint work.

Hmm, I'd have a chat with Alex at Elite about it, as it shouldn't leak. I think Hyper Wash and hot water is very hard to beat in terms of clinging foam (see below!), so it might be worth swapping, but as Matt says, the slicker the finish the shorter the dwell time anyway. The Gilmour would be a step back and would produce less clinging foam...

Its only leaks from around the bottle when you are screwing it onto the lance its self. It does not leak anywhere else...sorry I should been more clear.

What can I do about it being rather a pain in the rear at attaching onto my karcher? its like the brass piece is a little too big for my gun.

What bottle have you got on yours PB? as the one that came with mine is tiny.

P.S. I think I will have to order some hyperwash very very soon, well intime for jap show anyways :D

If you have the same problem that I had, I used a rat tail file to make the hole in the end of the lance just a touch bigger to accept the karcher easier.

Yep, as above, drill out the hole in the brass connector by another 1-2mm, and you'll find it will fit just fine. The bottle I use is the Meguiars 32oz Generic Bottle - Meguiars Generic Bottle - which has the same thread. :)

ah glad I found this thread and am not the only one ..eh darren.
Bought the same elite foam lance as darren, plugged it into my karcher and made the first mistake..turned off the pressure. (well you need to do that for the karcher own branded one so I was in the habit of it)

Then after realising my mistake, tried again with pressure and worked, but blooming hell does that foam disappear quick. I put in about a 1:6 mix in the litre bottle of snow foam and warm water and it was done in one side of the car.
Then added the remaining snow foam (it was nearly all gone in my first attempt) and some hyper wash and warm water, but that just went as fast.

I like the stuff, but at the speed it goes, it seems a bit excessive

Cheers Chris.
