WRC - Spain and Corsica : IT Technician Vacancy

Hi All

We have a short term (with possibility of long term) IT Technician / Support vacancy working for our Technology devision in the World Rally Championship, and I thought I'd offer it to the ScoobyNet community first!

The initial vacancy, if for Spain and Corsica (solid two weeks from 29th Sept to 15th Oct) and working mainly in our Service Park control centre.

The role consists of supporting our small team during the set-up phase of the event - aiding the set-up of the Timing, Results and Safety Tracking systems, and cabling and setting up the service park network.

Then, during the event itself, being the main support technician to the network at Service Park, supporting the WRC teams, FIA, Television, and media, whilst in continuous contact with our Rally HQ control centre. Followed by Sunday night pack-up.

Experience / Skills required :
Windows 2000 Server
Windows 2000
Windows XP
Any cisco experience will be an advantage.
You will also need a full driving license, and valid passport.

Be aware that during the rally, we work long hours, and while there is the odd chance to see the rally cars, and soak up the atmosphere, at least 95% of the time you'll just be working / monitoring the technology, so it isn't a glamour-fest.

Please email you CV and confirmation that you are available during those dates to lfountain@iscrally.com along with any questions you may have, and an indication of when over the next week you would be able to make an interview in Warwickshire.

All the best

Simon

When you say 'our technology division', you don't mean Scoobynet's do you? Posting as webmaster it's a bit confusing.

ex-webby 17 September 2007 05:43 PM

Sorry..

"We" is ISC Technologies.

ISC is the commercial rights holder to the World Rally Championship. We run the Television, wrc.com, etc.

This role is part of our technology operation which provides live results and tracking to the teams, FIA, and media at service park, and additional media data such as telemetry for the in-car shots, and high resolution GPS data for the Virtual Spectator (3D parallel racing) sequences on the TV show.

Wow! What an opportunity.

Not meant as a cheeky question, but maybe to stop a few unnecessary applications...what level is the role..i.e. 1st line/junior ..etc

ex-webby 17 September 2007 06:06 PM

Hi Ollie

Unfortunately, it isn't a neatly identifyable as 1st line, etc. The operational team in service park is a small and close working one. Everyone gets involved, in order to make sure everything keeps working.

I'm sure you'll appreciate that, in the middle of a stage, if something goes wrong with the networks, you can't say "ok.. I'll get on to it in a minute, I'm just finishing something off". The pressure is fairly intense at times.

I can manage to access SN, does that make me highly qualified enough?:wonder:

Make good cups of tea, just in case that swings it in my favour :D

Webby you work round wrc cars and you run SN.......I envy you! ;)

MattW 17 September 2007 06:55 PM

Do you have to be able to spell division? :p

Salary details? (not for me, got a mate who may be interested if it were long term)

ex-webby 17 September 2007 07:33 PM

Matt

As stated. It is for Spain and Corsica. But MAY end up being long term, depending on how it goes.

If your friend is interested, please ask him to forward his CV to the address above.

mickywrx 17 September 2007 10:50 PM

Where's my job offer then? Seems I'm best qualified for the job, best cuppa in the North East IMO ;) :D

ryn004 18 September 2007 12:42 AM

I'm taking a chance and I sent my CV. Note I am from Malta but I don't mind the travel or the odd hours if the salary is good.

Just forgot to ask one question, would the company pay for flights to the Rally course and accomodation?

I think that more than answer the question itself :)

I can log into Windows XP without forgetting my password - is that enough?

You'll have to write a write a letter to my wife to excuse me for a couple for weeks though.
If it says that you'll promise to make sure I eat, sleep and eat OK then she may let me go.

Do i get the job?

Ill drop my cv in to you tomorrow morning when im in work. Have a fortnight left of holiday to take before December, work as an IT sys admin for the last 7 years.

Leave is paid so not to fussed on the wage, just don't fancy turning down an opportunity for a slightly more interesting career where i can mix my skills with motors :)

minty 19 November 2007 03:18 PM

Is this now an old heading on SN (now November) or are there options for future positions within the team next year ?

Thanks
Chris.

Are these positions still advertised here?
I work on a rotation outside the UK, so if the events fall in my time off I can travel anywhere at short notice!
