i have fitted a sti5 style rear spoiler (copy) to my car, i now find at speeds of 60 mph plus it oscilates, has anyone else come across this problem, and how did they fix it/ strengthen it?????

Where did you get the spoiler. and what is it made of?

richbay 07 January 2002 01:11 PM

its made from a resin (not fiber glass) i wonder if the ones with brake lights fitted would be stronger, dont want to say who i brought it from, as i dont want to offend the supplier

I know its not a scooby but I have the same thing happen to my rear spoiler on my Evo 6 but it's not really a problem as I don't tend to see much out of the rear view mirror anyway ;)
I wouldn't imagine ther would be much you could do about it as long as it is fastened securely to the boot.

POC has the same rear spoiler, if you see the members gallery, there is a picture of it there,
i was thinking of bonding a thin strip of material to the underside in a bit to strenghten it.

Rich,

I Haven't seen this spoiler in the flesh, so to speak (it isn't like ours), but is it hollow? If so, you may be able to drill some holes next to the mounting points, then fill it with expanding foam and let it set.
The top plane does look quite thin, so there's maybe not a lot you can do with it.
The usual STi 5's are in 2 parts and have the brake light in the section along the bootlid.

I got an Sti 6 from dr motor sports, i could only manage the 2 screws to fit it, couldn’t get the snap in thing to fit (ill try later)
But i have had no problems with it, ive seen 145 on the clock for a prolonged period, and no wobble or anything sits there pretty solid (I hope)
