o/s cv boot split
After taking my alloys off today I noticed the cv boot split and grease everywhere. It seems to be quite old and no doubt empty of grease now.
How are these changed, any special tools required and what grease is to be used..........or does that come with the news boot. Any help appreciated. car---My 03 STI. |
grease comes with the cv boot , no special tools needed

If using a OE boot you'll need to remove the whole drive shaft so you can split the joints from the shaft.. You can get stretch boots which can be fitted over the CV joints which means you dont have to split the joints from the shaft but they normally require special air tools.. Or you can get 'sticky boots' which come with a split down the middle so you can put round the shaft in situte, glue it together then slide it over the CV joint...
A lot of people slag off the sticky boots but if fitted correctly i.e. you dont get ANY grease or oil on the join before you glue it they work perfectly well. |
i wouldnt use one of them sticky boots total crap, only use them if you need a quick fix and be prepared to do the job again in a month or so. (my opinion)
