Busy Over The Weekend
 

New brake disc's arrived on friday after waiting 2 weeks for them. Didn't have time to do anything on the friday though because i had to travel to pick up a new MAF for the car :( £88 lighter but its all sorted now.

I did plan to get all the disc's changed on the saturday but didn't start till later on and the damn bolts holding the calipers on were seized on pretty tight. So they took time to work loose not being able to get a bar in the arches wound me up :brickwall . So did the fronts saturday had a break sunday morning for some fun :norty: then did the rears.

Anyway heres a few pics :-

After reading a few sites i felt comfortable jacking the car up like this

Decided to get and early night after that because of an early start for a track day on the sunday morning was up at 7.30am was well worth it though :-

Had a great morning but then it was home quick bite to eat and crack on with the discs:-

Jacked the rear up like this, lowered the trolley jack slightly and put some of the weight onto a set of ramps with boards on there to protect the sills.

Just a quick shot of the disc through the wheels, you can also see that i fitted my Rally Flaps at the same time thought i may as well while the wheels are off. Need to decided on vinyls for them now.
There is new pads to come shortly and hopefully a nice new set of alloy wheels.

Little bit of a long winded thread but thanks for reading, and can anyone suggest the pads i should be using??

:lol1: i know man its so tempting but at the moment things are pretty much standard under the hood. My discs weren't looking too good so i thought may aswel change them for something a little different, i want to get the cars looks sored before i start on the engine :)

great job mate. will prob need to get mine done soon. what discs and pads did you go for and what was the cost?

The pads at the moment are OEM i havent long changed them but i will be looking to upgrade soon. The disc's i picked up from ebay they are manufactured by a company called brake engineering and the guy on ebay sold me the Fronts and Rears for a grand total of £180. I know people are going to think what the hell they must be rubbish for that price but i can feel a difference i just wonder how long they will last. :p

Do mind letting us know how you get on with these as I need new front discs, and Subaru have just extracted over a grand from me for various repairs, so I want to keep costs down.

Do they stop well, and are they noisy at all?

Hey 4String i think i may of bought mine off that guy. When you say noisy im guessing you mean squeaky, then nope no problem from mine and they feel a little better than standard ones even with the OEM pads.

Yes pretty easy driveway job first time for me :-

1. Loosen wheel nuts Jack up the car
2. Wheel off, 5 Nuts
3. Two 17mm bolts at the rear holding the caliper on (be warned these were seized pretty tight and took up most my time)
4. Take the caliper off tie it up out the way, to prevent strain on brake lines.
5. Pop the old disc off.
6. Do the above in reverse order :thumb:

Sounds simple but seriously allow yourself a little extra time those bolts where a nightmare for me. Plenty of Release oil or something similar WD40.

The calipers look good in black! I might have to do that to mine now :thumb:

cheers mate, i painted them a little while ago. At the moment im having issue's with the paint on the disc's i can smell it after quite a bit of braking and its bubbling slightly on the drivers rear. Looks like i may have to clean them down grrr.
