Any way to test the coolant temp sensor once its out ?

i have removed the coolant temp sensor on a classic 95 model.

phoned up subaru,they want near £40 for a new one:eek2: :eek2:

so i popped down to my local scrappie and found a sport with one, identical, got for 40p,cleaned it up,looks sweet.

any way with a multimeter to test them, anyone know any resitance etc it should have ??

cheers

Put an ohm meter across it, typically most thermistors read 10k ohms at 25 degC, but some thermisters (and perhaps subaru's) have different scales.

But as long as it reads somewhere around that (as in not a direct short or open circuit) then assume its working OK

cheers, just did that, the warmer it got,the lower the reading got, started off at 20 ohms,as i wamred it up it went down to 16.

when i try my "faulty" one i bet it will do the same ha ha doh.

onto the next faulty possible cause....

cheers.
