Polybush....
Well I think the motor is going to be off the road for a bit as I start to tidy her up a bit.
Whilst im doing it and fitting the various mods that I have lying around I might as well replace the bushes, she's done 101,000miles so its definitely going to make a difference. Is it easy to do or do you need special machinery? |
Easy as mecanno but hard work.
All you need are the normal tool kit and a good sharp hacksay and a keen eye. Most of the bushes are in a thin steel tube sleeve that are then pressed into the various components. You drill the rubber and insert the hacksaw and cut through the sleeve so carefully to avoid cutting the housings etc. When you get to the last slice the outer sleeve will relax, jamb the hacksaw and you can start to fight it out! While you are sweating it out change the rear diff bushes and the rear cross members too. I have no rubber anywhere in my chassis now. Noise etc are a bit more , but I don't notice it anymore. It will need a full alignment after of course. Graham |
Thanks for the tips :) Is there much difference between manufacturers?
|
No.
I have a mix of Powerflex and Whiteline on mine, but some have grades to choose from. ie 'Full hard race' /'Road going compliant' etc. coded by colour. Road going are good! iirc: Powerflex = purple colour Whiteline = yellow |
Cool thanks...good luck with the sale...but youll be sorely missed!
|
Thank you, but the car will only sell to the right money, I will not be giving it away!
I feel heavy-hearted about selling, but need to move on as the race competition is too hot with lads 1/2 my age.... Does my ego no good! |
:) Decided on the next project yet?
|
Yes, if I sell the car for the right money.
It will not be given away. I want to build a small light sports racer (Lotus 23B/Crossle) with a 3.2 litre 911 engine and box in the back. 600Kg and 250 bhp should be good fun? |
That would be brilliant....British racing green and gold colours of course?
|
Found the exact car I fancy, just need to sell the quick one.
It is BRG with a Lotus yellow stripe..old skool :just right for me! |
:) Good luck, if you do sell the quick one that is....
