Newage front speakers....

Well I've just fitted some of these with Corsa adaptor plates to an 07

Car Audio/Stereo - Car Audio/Stereo Accessories - Fusion Car Audio - ENCM65 - Fusion Car Audio 6.5" Component Speaker System 240 Watts Max

£50 from Halfords.

and I have to say that they sound absolutely brilliant:thumb:

I don't know much about Fusion, nor am I an audiophile but imho they knock the spots clean off the Infinity's that I had before.

Nice warm sound,no harshness and with an extremely clear midrange:)

No connection with them btw,but thought it might help someone as I've trawled around for the last couple of days looking for a reasonably priced component speaker set

:D

JimStiProdrive 28 August 2007 12:11 PM

hi mate, i bought your old silver sti.. would you say these speakers are a worth while upgrade over the sony speakers you left in the car. i am looking into louder speakers, was going to get focal, but they are quite pricey.

cheers

Elmer Fudpucker 28 August 2007 02:32 PM

What ho Jim!..how's the old bone going?;)

As far as I can remember, you have Infinity's in the front and Sony's in the rear.

I always found the Infinity to be a bit harsh, particularly the tweeters even at the -3 setting.

I don't know what head unit you have, but in the 07 I have a Nakamichi with 16.5 cm Fusion components up front and Fusion 5 1/4'' components in the rear(but without the tweeters)

as I said, fitted with Corsa adapters...you even get an adapter ring left over to allow you to fit the larger rears with minimum fuss

let me know if you want to pop round work and have a listen one day:thumb:

Hi,
Could you post some pics of your speakers installed please?
Where can I get the corsa adaptor?
I have a 07 WRX wagon and find the OE system more than acceptable but would like to have a unit that plays mp3's.
Are the cones of the OE speakers made of paper? They used to in all my older cars so changing them used to make a big difference.

JimStiProdrive 28 August 2007 04:20 PM

hi mate, the car is running fine apart from the front light as been damaged by subaru, so they are trying to fix it, as its not a standard light is it.

any way, i am running an alpine headunit, i only said sony, as i checked the back ones, and assumed sony all through.

dont suppose you know what kappa speakers thye where do you, only the last thing i want to do is buy speakers that are inferior to the 1's i own.

where do you work, would like to listen to them, would be cool.

Snazy 28 August 2007 04:29 PM

Nice link mate, might have to invest there.
Want something to give a slightly crisper sound than the factory ones.

I assume these require no doorcard adjustments, and the tweeters pop straight in ?

FX02 28 August 2007 09:08 PM

Did you fit all the other stuff thats in the box, or just the speakers?

Elmer Fudpucker 28 August 2007 09:50 PM

In the front I fitted the crossovers and tweeters, you can set them at-3.0,+3 or 0.

the rears I fitted without the tweeters.

Now don't forget I'm far from being an expert on this subject:lol1:

but so far am well pleased with the >£100 outlay for what is definately a vast improvement over the std items, plus they really were a doddle to fit:)

FX02 28 August 2007 10:00 PM

Good stuff :thumb:

Where did you put that big control box?

Elmer Fudpucker 28 August 2007 10:05 PM

..I used some 3M double sided tape and stuck them to the inside of the door card:)

probably not an award winning install;),but hey it fits:lol1:

The Corsa adaptor...You'll notice that two holes line up exactly to the holes in the door with the original screws.....for the third(bottom right)you need to align the speaker so that using a longer self tapping screw it goes thro the speaker into the adapter and then into the original hole in the door

..with the tweeter(supplied grille removed)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/09...peakers003.jpg

and the tweeter with the door card fitted

hope that helps:)

Martin-STI 29 August 2007 03:02 PM

Looks nice and neat that install.

I may do this to, I have a 182 Clio that I drive during week and when I get in The STI I keep thinking the stereo is fooked.

Door panels are easy to get off all you need to do is remove the screw in the electric window console (where you grab the door to close it) and remove the bezel around the door handle (on the inside) then you can run your fingers around the door card popping out the clips.
Dynamat is really easy to use i bought a kit from my local audio shop for £50 which did both doors and had a bit to spare

If you decide to go the 6.5" speaker route then you will need a spacer as the speaker will foul the window mechanism. You can get plastic corsa spacers from halfords which are ok but making an MDF spacer is far superior as it makes a much better baffle than plastic :thumb:

i want to upgrade mine.
if i use the spacers and 6.5 inch speakers does this mean the door card goes on & the original speaker cover so it looks original.???????

scooby-tc 27 September 2007 09:30 PM

of course, you would never know what speakers i had in mine until you heard it.It looks totally factory fit

does it matter what depth or thickness the speakers need to be.

scooby-tc 27 September 2007 09:39 PM

My Focals are 77mm deep whereas the factory speakers are 51mm iirc. With mine the Focals are right on the maximum depth for fitting in the door without fouling the window any deeper and you will need to buid some sort of door pod i think.I dont think you could have bigger spacers than 18mm without having problems refitting the doorcard
