this was sitting on a leaf of a sunflower in our garden.

Have never seen anything like it before.


Any1 got any idea on what it is?

The dimple effect markings on the abdomen and the bands on the legs suggest Walnut Orb Weaver (Nuctenea umbratica) to me. The size and proportion of the abdomen indicates a male.

Looking a bit closer at the photo it is unquestionably male and not a juvenile female as the enlarged tips of the pedipalps are visible. This dude is ready to make love, not war. :D
