Well done Xbox

Got number 3 back from the repair center. It lasted 10 hours before the ROD appearered :( Had an interesting chat with a manager and I am now being sent a brand new one after threatening legal action in a small claims court as I believed I had enough evidence to demonstrate it was not fit for purpose :) They even admitted the early ones with larger hotter chips are doomed to failure. If you on your second repair or more stand and fight your ground.

RB5-Black 25 August 2007 07:11 PM

it's amazing how some blow up all the time and others are still working since launch day.

My launch day machine is now 20'000 gs old and still working .....

Iain Young 26 August 2007 12:49 AM

My 4th one seems to be going alright. The previous 3 were a little flaky...

VoteConservative! 26 August 2007 02:10 AM

My pc's run years on end trouble free, and so do my cars. Although cars are a completely different subject. The mentality that its ok or acceptable for the 360 to break so much is rather childish or the views of a fanboy. Why should the consumer be so inconvienced and infact charged for 360's that break because microsoft did a half assed job? :Whatever_

Computer geeks aye? :cuckoo:

RB5-Black 26 August 2007 04:29 AM

Repair is Free for red light problem. My console has been first class and not one stutter since launch day !

not a fanboy just fact !

While Xbox continue to offer free repairs and now a brand new machine, 4 free games, a wireless headset, 3 months free Live, I wont overly complain.

Repair for the red lights being free has only just recently been implemented though, and I still find it inconvienent if my 360 was to break. Would you be happy if you needed a new mobile phone every 6 months?

Im not a PS3 fanboy, I just realise that the 360 needs to up its game.

TBH I couldnt care less lol.

Seeing as I own practically every other console on the planet, (and hopefully soon will have a ps3, as soon as there is some decent software for it) I hardly think I can be called a 360 fanboy

Go and crawl back under your Sony fanboy rock :D

So, all of them then....

I'm certainly starting to think there is something is the whole horizontal / vertical debate.

All the 360's problems are hardware.

All the PS3's problems are software.

PeteBrant 28 August 2007 12:03 PM

I stuggle to understand, why, because MS have given a 3 year backdated warranty, suddenly people say "everything is ok" again.

It was the absolute least MS could have done. They are hiding the fact that they have sold millions of products that are not for for purpose behind an extended warranty.

They obviously expect the 90nm consoles to have, and continue to have problems throughout its life.

At some point some sort of class action is going to appear - You simply should not be able to get away with selling 10million items, of which only half work.

Simon 69 28 August 2007 12:06 PM

That'll happen in America perhaps, but not here. It'd be foolish to expect their remedy to be applied to us either.....

I think it's coming both in the States and over here. At some point, even those people that have , somewhat mystifyingly, put up with thier console being in for repair 5 or 6 times are going to get fed up eventually.

The reason I put up with mine is because it's the only platform with any decent games at the moment. If the PS3 had the same software lineup, I'd probably have one of those instead, but it hasn't so the 360 is the platform of choice currently.

I agree that it's only a matter of time before the legal time bomb hits MS though...

Scooby-Doo 28 August 2007 01:35 PM

Scrub all my comments. Spoke to MS this morning to confirm a new console would be delivered immediately they have received mine and they have said that I must be wrong and they will repair mine with 20 working days. Told them to cancel the repair and I have spoken to Game (The retailer who my contract is with) and have advised I require a full refund or I will take them to the small claims court as the machine was not of a suitable quality when sold.

I will let you know the outcome once I receive a reply. Never will I buy an MS product again.

VoteConservative! 28 August 2007 01:55 PM

Exactly, and there you have hit a whole new nerve with this xbox 360/microsoft issue. They are a one of the richest companies in teh world, yet they dont have the backbone or ethics to treat customers fairly even though they knew from day one that they were shafting consumers with a mediocre product!

Iain Young 28 August 2007 02:26 PM

I'd call it flawed rather than mediocre, but it's not very good state of affairs at all. If MS lose the war of this generation of consoles, I suspect it will mainly be because of this...

messiah 28 August 2007 03:55 PM

I can't see there being any clear cut winner in this round of console wars - I think when the machines are nearing the end of their lifespan, the PS3 will be out in front but I very much doubt that the gap will be as big as was with the XBox / PS2 war.

But the problem will get fixed.

Ive had my 360 console just over a year with no problems, ive also recently bought another 360 for another room, again, no problems.

Im quite sure one day il get the ring of death but i know it will get fixed and i have another 360 to fall back on while its being repaired ;)

I wouldnt say the 360 is mediocre either, its the leading serious console on the market, theres tonnes of games and add ons for it, i also like the customisation factor regarding faceplates and skins to make your console individual.

Lets face it, the PS3 is a good console but its backed by morons and with none or little content available right now its pointless owning one.

VoteConservative! 29 August 2007 09:29 PM

If more people owned a PS3 then more content will come :D

No it wont, the lack of games is killing the PS3 and the guys at the top are to stupid to realise that.

There loads of stuff coming for PS3

Christ you would think it's the first console in history to have a lack of games at launch.

It's not, see ever other console released ever for examples.

Iain Young 30 August 2007 09:11 AM

It's been out getting on for a year (in Japan) and the development machines were available to developers for a long time before that. The rate of games coming out does seem very sluggish compared to previous console releases.
