Decision time......time to buy or not.....

Right its decision time........

Went to the dealer today and he gave me the car for 4 hours by myself which was nice of him. The car is a hawkeye STi on an 07 plate which was on the court for £22995
The car is immaculate which is what you would expect for a car thats done 3000 miles.

After my play about in it we sat down and talked talk, the outcome was:

07 plate STi registered in March
3100 miles on the clock
Prodrive Blue Mudflaps
STi mats
6 months tax (£160)
Superguarded
6 months RAC Trackstar remaining
2.5 years roadside cover
A tank of petrol

All for the grand total of £21200.

What do you boys think, did I do ok??

Giving the dealer a call in the morning to give him a definite answer.

I think its about the best that you would get from a dealer. You could get a brand new euro one for £21,000 but not everyone wants to go that route (I did).
People will also say that dealers were selling brand new spec d's for that kind of money only a couple of months ago. But they did this to get rid of them because nobody was buying them.
It's probably a fair price that you have negotiated what with the extras and all.

One thing that would be on my mind would be the fact that it has probably been thrashed around a little during the running in period, (Am I correct in assuming its a demo car). Although I would think that it wouldn't hurt it that much, if at all.

Just my thoughts.

Cheers for your comments Chris.

Yes its a demo.

One thing I would say is that the dealership is located in a rural part of our area with the majority of staff being around the 50-60 years old mark, its got a great reputation and they don't like/allow any people to come in and just thrash one of their best motors about. It hasn't had that many test drives looking at the log which surprised me as it has 3000 miles on the clock. When I enquired about this I was informed that either the manager or one of his senior staff have ran it about to go to meetings etc.

I think the lack of test drives came down to the fact that the garage is in such a rural area, for a big place like Cleveland the nearest Subaru dealership is either 40 mins drive further up north or 40 mins drive south to reach the nearest dealer.

I must say though, what a superb drive that motor is!! Best car I've driven by quite a bit.

sounds like a cracking deal, can't see you getting any better.i would'nt worry about it being a demo either as you've still got over 30 months warrenty but if i was buying it i'd hit them for a years road tax.next march its going to be 400 quid! so it would be wise to stick a year on now.

I always think that as long as you are happy with your decision thats all that matters.
Sounds like a great deal, go for it:thumb:

Aye, I'm ringing back first thing tomorrow morning with my decision so I'm going to try for a years tax and obviously mention a full tank of petrol.

Some people have also said ask for a full subscription payed for the RAC Trackstar, possibly a bit unrealistic considering this dealer has been squeezed so much already.

I'll report back tomorrow with the final result :thumb:

I agree, if you are happy then why not. The car is there to put a smile on your face and if you feel you got a deal too even better

magicgreg 23 August 2007 01:28 PM

Well I got my 12 months tax included in the price so I think I've done ok.

I'm sure if I kept on at him I could have had maybe another £100 off the price possibly but at the end of the day its splitting hairs at this point and I'm happy, so I've got a big fat cheque for Mr Petch and I'm picking it up on Saturday at 12pm!!

GET IN, CAN'T WAIT!!!

Thanks again for all comments!
