First, check the standard. It may be that a 5 metre DVI cable wont work.....

What do you mean ?

As a sort-of relevant example, people someimes ask where they can buy a 10 metre USB cable: the point is, that the USB-standard maximum length is only 5 metres. See what I mean? Im not expecting there to be a rigidly enforced standard like USB has, but after a bit of research at least you will know if a DVI cable can reliably transfer data of a 5 metre run.

A quick look brought up this:

Oh right, i have looked into it & everything seems to be ok on that basis.

Cheers for the heads up though :thumb:

Assuming that the above is accurate: and I have only posted it because I believe that it is, then Id say that a 1080P/I widescreen signal will use a similar amount of bandwidth to the first resolution quoted above. I dont htink that a 5 metre cable is going to give you an impressive result

Its just for a monitor, the tv will be connected via a 2 metre cable.

Simon

We put lots of 10 metre USB runs in at work :thumb:

they work a treat too :)

Simon 69 20 August 2007 05:25 AM

Perhaps they do Steve, but the standard max. length is 5 metres, so the cables shouldnt bear the USB logo on the connectors.

I know Simon

We had that problem initially when Customers decided they wanted their USB devices more than 5 metres away

TBH I think we actually use boosters/repeaters but they do work well :thumb:

1080p runs perfectly over a 5M HDMI cable. I would suggest DVI is equally perfect.
