Hi,

I've got a set of AP 4 pots under standard 16" wheels.

After a couple of hard stops, I can now hear a grinding / rubbing type noise. This noise can be heard while the brakes are applied, and also after releasing the pedal for a short while, but I don't think it is the pads.

The noise doesn't appear immediately, but after braking from high speeds for a couple of seconds. The noise will continue for maybe 10-20 seconds after releasing the pedal. The car brakes and runs in a straight line 'hands off', so I don't think that the caliper on one side is seizing.

I haven't taken a wheel off to have a good look, but I presume that things are heating up and touching, and then cooling off.

I think that the noise is coming from the front n/s wheel only. Any ideas about what I should be looking at?. Could it be a wheel bearing problem?

Cheers,

Alex

I had this on my Hi-spec AP kit, If your disc is runninig close to the back of the caliper under heavy braking the disc expands a small amount and this is enough to touch the back causing a scraping noise.

Check your calipers and if they are close, this will probaly be the cause.

Mine was resolved with a washer between the caliper and mounting bracket. This gave sufficient clearance to pull the caliper away from the edge of the disc

hope this helps
Scott

Are the brakes new, or have you just fitted new pads? What size pads are you running? The 16in APR kit needs slightly smaller radius pads to clear the bell when part worn. Just a thought.

Richard.
