Secondhand rack off ebay, or call David at Welcome to the API website for a gaiter.
Mark EXACTLY the position of the track rod locking nut, slacken the locking nut, remove the clamp ring off the small and larg ends of the split bellows.
Unscrew the rod end off the shaft by revolving the rod with spanner.
Remove the locking nut.
Remove the split gaiter by pulling off the rack arm.
Clean everything + the inside of the replacement gaiter (bellows)
Slide the gaiter on over the rod and refit the rack/gaiter clamp (some use a thin cable-tie if stuck) on the large rack end.
Replace the locking nut to the exact position marked.
Replace the rod end to the nut and nip tight the nut/rod end.
Replace the bellows small clip.

Run the engine!
After 60 secs or so check the PAS fluid level. If required, top-up.

Job done. If you lost the exact position of the lock nut, a quick tracking is needed (a good thing to do anyway).

That should do it. If that is all too much a decent local garage should charge no more than an hour to do it all inc the tracking.

Graham,

We are about to start a body shell change, Could you please give me a step-by-step on how to do that, as its seems that you have comprehensive knowledge of Subaru repairs.:p:notworthy

Should we start at the back or the front? Inside or outside? What torque are the headlamp retaining screws??:lol1:

Sorry for so many questions:D
