Nice to know they care......

BBC NEWS | England | Somerset | Grandfather must leave care home

So just the 3 heart attacks and dementia then. Makes me spit

Absolutely fcuking rediculous!

Personally if I were him, I'd go down the local council offices and start throwing rocks through the windows.

He'll get arrested, it'll go to court... blame the dementia, and end up in a care home. There will be loads of press coverage that shows the council as the bunch of heartless inept w4nkers that they are!

sounds like our country once again

There seems to be more of this sort of thing happening now. It makes me furious to read about things like this. How can they possible say that he does not qualify for nursing care in his state of health.

There seems to be a thread of extreme selfishness running through the authorities in general these days. Its as though elderly people who are ill are unlikely to be able to take positive action against them so they just get kicked around!

Les :(

Agree 100% with your comment there Les.

These people should be given respect and allowed to live with dignity and as this case has highlighted, it is clear that some do not. :(

Dementia is one of the most cruel diseases, I've seen it first-hand as it ate away at my grandmother for 3 long, painfull years before she died. Sufferers are perhaps some of the most vulnerable people in the country and need support from both families and the authorities.

On the Radio it said that the poor old boy's son was himself caring for his own terminally ill wife.

I just have this mental picture of some woman in charge on 48 grand a year looking at a pile of financial mumbo jumbo and accepting some iffy report compiled by a newly qualified health visitor which says this old chap is perfectly fit and healthy when an untrained chimpanzee could spot that he needed help.

I just wish I had a load of cash to spare cos I would send it to the son to challenge this heartless council and for starters get his money back from the home he had to sell.

Uncaring b'astards, the lot of them

InvisibleMan 17 August 2007 01:24 PM

so did they take the whole £40k before they came to the conclusion that he didnt meet their criteria?

Leslie 17 August 2007 01:29 PM

The care home took the cash to pay for his care until it ran out. The council refuse to pay for his further nursing care.

Les
