The cost of writing a program?

Hi peeps,

I am currently trying to do a costing for a small application that runs as a windows service.

To cut a long story short I need this application writing that runs as an administrator level service that listens to a webserver (using AES 128 or similar encryption) for a broadcast messege (using random time offsets so not to as flood server)

The messege contains a "time to execute" field, that tells the clients what time to execute a pre defined command
Once the messege is authenticated as "true", it sets the countdown to execution time, and then executes a custom program at the right time.

I dont want to go into specifics too much, but im looking for an idea on cost.

Can any windows programmers help ?

Cheers

Stu

why does it need to be a service?

i wouldn't pay more than a grand for that app.

Sounds like a bog standard piece of malware to me.

Jack, assume what you want bu it isnt. Why would I as a sysadmin want to put yet more crudware out there? Its for a corp environment actually! Dont always assume the worst!

In regards to it needing to be a service, its basically a lights out type service to perform maintainance tasks at for example 3 am

eh ? thats a bit of a stab in the dark isn't it ? :nono:

whats wrong with a server triggering an app on a remote client, via an encrypted WAN link ? No big deal?

I meant no offence. There are thousands of pieces of malware that do exactly as your asking, although most would use an IRC server rather than a web server.
