I am just looking at buying a house in the town (always lived in the country) it has a street light a couple of metres from the front bedroom window, is this a problem? I guess I will have to close my curtains at night now since I wont be out in the sticks so I probably wont see it anyway?

How much would it affect resale value? Is it really a problem or am I worring about nothing?

I have thought about streching out and plugging into it to run the house electrics on :)

I have, and I actually prefer it, as it makes it easier to see things at night, like getting out of the car etc

It is actually positioned in between my neighbours house and mine, so doesnt really overlook the bedrooms directly

The only problem I have with it, is that it is one of those right angle top ones, and the pigeons love to sit on it, and sh*t from there onto the pavement :D

A new development of "Exclusive" apartments were built just round the corner from me. Duplex Penthouse apartment was going for £375k. Sold within weeks. A month or so later I noticed it being advertised for sale (by developer) for £330k.
I found out that the guy who'd bought it drove round one night to show his mate the new flat and realised that there was a dirty great big street light right outside his Bedroom and living room windows. The whole interior was glowing orange. He pulled out the very next day.
I'm going to wait a few more months, then put in a stupid offer for it. One air rifle shot later, bye bye light. Council will soon get sick of replacing the light. ;)

There's one outside my home in the UK and it's never kept me awake, thick curtains help:thumb:

It does have it's advantages too. If you get up in the night for a p!ss just enough light gets into the bedroom to avoid stubbing your toes on stuff:D

Everyone I know thinks I am going to find it pretty hard because where I live currently is so quiet with no cars or traffic, no neighbours no noise etc

I have lived like this since I was born so not sure if I will cope with the shock!

There's a street light outside the apartment im in, which annoyed me enough to fit Blackout blinds to the main bedroom windows. I couldnt sleep as the bedroom was orange :mad:

and i wouldnt buy a house with one outside.

I have one outside my house and to be honest I barely even notice it anymore when in bed. It was never an issue in deciding wether to buy the house or not.

The advantage I have as well is that all the streetlights are switched off in my street anywhere between midnight and 1am.

We have a street light outside the front of the house that recently broke. Was gutted when someone reported it and it got fixed... :(

I've found in the past that it's not to bad if it's on, or off, but when it's faulty and flashing constantly all night it's a complete pain in the ass!

Wouldn't do it!! Have no lights near me. Then again, I have no curtains or blinds.

Come to think of it I wouldn't have neighbours either. :D

Wouldn't bother with it... too much hassle... and it'll be a magnet for dogs sh1tting and pissing if its on a main thoroughfare! ;)

I've got one outside my bedroom window and it doesn't bother me at all... used to have thick curtains but now it doesn't bother me with no curtains. So no disadvantage for me, and there are small security/safety advantages.

Anyone trying to break in has to walk through the dog sh1t around its base which is a GREAT deterrent and in the winter the dog piss melts the icy pavement :thumb:

I live in south london guv. The dogs all poop on the estates, where they live... it's not safe for them to roam, too many child gangs with knives, guns and stolen soviet nuclear weapons. :(

Its not all bad.... I'd rather have armed hoodies living next door than dog sh1t on the pavement :D

And they'll even watch your car for a fiver!

We have one about 5 m from the front door and to be honest, I never really thought about resale value! At least no-one can sneak in the house!!!!
