How to deal with prisoners...

TO THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH JOE ARPAIO, HE IS THE MARICOPA

COUNTY SHERIFF ( ARIZONA ) AND HE KEEPS GETTING ELECTED OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

These are some of the reasons why:

Sheriff Joe Arpaio created the "tent city jail" to save Arizona from
spending tens of million of dollars on another expensive prison complex.

He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for
them.

He banned smoking and porno magazines in the jails, and took away their
weightlifting equipment and cut off all but "G" movies. He says: "they're in
jail to pay a debt to society not to build muscles so they can assault
innocent people when they leave."

He started chain gangs to use the inmates to do free work on county and city
projects and save taxpayer's money.

Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued for
discrimination.

He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court order
that required cable TV for jails. So he hooked up the cable TV again but
only allows the Disney channel and the weather channel.

When asked why the weather channel he replied: "so these morons will know
how hot it's gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs."

He cut off coffee because it has zero nutritional value and is therefore a
waste of taxpayer money. When the inmates complained, he told them, "This
isn't the Ritz/Carlton. If you don't like it, don't come back."

He also bought the Newt Gingrich lecture series on US history that he pipes
into the jails. When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by a
Democrat, he replied that a democratic lecture series that actually tells
the truth for a change would be welcome and that it might even explain why
95% of the inmates were in his jails in the first place.

With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116 degrees just
set a new record for June 2nd), the Associated Press reports: About 2,000
inmates living in a barbed- wire-surrounded tent encampment at the Maricopa
County Jail have been given permission to strip down to their
government-issued pink boxer shorts.

On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing pink boxer shorts were chatting in the
tents, where temperatures reached 128 degrees. "This is hell. It feels like
we live in a furnace," said Ernesto Gonzales, an inmate for 2
years with 10 more to go. "It's inhumane."

Joe Arpaio, who makes his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches,
is not one bit sympathetic. "Criminals should be punished for their crimes -
not live in luxury until it's time for parole, only to go out and commit
more crimes so they can come back in to live on taxpayers money and enjoy
things many taxpayers can't afford to have for themselves."

Wednesday he told all the inmates who were complaining of the heat in the
tents: "It's between 120 to 130 degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living
in tents too, and they have to walk all day in the sun, wearing full
battle gear and get shot at, and they have not committed any crimes, so shut
your damned mouths!"

Way to go, Sheriff! If all prisons were like yours there would be a lot less
crime and we would not be in the current position of running out of prison spaces.

Sheriff Joe was just re-elected Sheriff in Maricopa County, Arizona

is this the same prison that they made the tv show about where 10 brits were sent there for 2 weeks rather than go to jail in the UK.

The head screw was a huge black bloke that dressed like robocop!

the inmates in there wore pink tshirts and boxer shorts with black and white stripy uniforms. The chain gangs cleaned up the litter and stuff from the side fo the highways.

I just forwarded this to some work colleagues for them to see. The joke could backfire on me though. As in this country with our PC laws and HR policies I am sure I could be fired for some sort of -ism. What would that be? crookism, criminialism :wonder:

boxst 15 August 2007 02:47 PM

Wow, I think they should introduce him here.

Be interesting to see what the annual inmate figures have been for the last 10 years or so. In otherwords are they decreasing year on year?

Thats exactly how it should be!! People are there to be punished and thats what they deserve.
We`ve got no chance of that over here because of the Pc brigade, but if you ask me thats exactly what this country needs!

I think if they steal cars they should automatically go to tent city. Oh and lets not forget branding thief across their forehead.
Lets hope one day the government wake up and realise we need to do this here.

YES.

One of my good friends was one of the 10 brits who went to stay at the Sherrifs jail :lol1:

Most amusing watching him there :)

Luminous 15 August 2007 08:04 PM

I saw a programme about his regime earlier in the year. I am all for what was written above, but there was a much darker sinister side that was reported on in the programme I watched. There was a culture of violence which is simply not acceptable, guards should not be beating prisoners.

Apart from that, I am all for having luxuries removed, and prisoners having to work. I like the one where he installed those exercise bike machines so they could peddle to make their own electricity. :lol1:

bootsy 15 August 2007 08:24 PM

well it get my vote

mart360 15 August 2007 10:53 PM

Ditto,

bring back hard labour, (seem to remember that breaking rocks on dartmoor was one we used to have)

I remember seeing a programe on the glasshouse (Military prison)

They were saying the re-offend rate for normal state prisons is around 70% :eek2:

Yet the glasshouse had something like a 3% re-offend rate

I wonder why? :D:D:D

Police brutality?

No police in prison - except for the ones that get caught lol.

It would certanly make me thinks twice about doing bad things. But so would the death penalty..........

That has no effect on the USA's prisoners.

Yeah well in Brazil, the cookie crumbles in a very different way.

Aaquil 16 August 2007 01:06 AM

My kind of guy...except to add extermination for rapists, murderers and paedophiles.

bugsti 16 August 2007 07:37 AM

Joe Arpaio is my hero too.

Just thinking about that poor chap murdered by the teenagers the other day for trying to protect his neighbourhood. I reckon if Joe had been in charge, those kids would already have been in tent city.

Maybe its time to bring back flogging like they had in the Isle of Man.

jasey 16 August 2007 07:56 AM

In our wonderful cnutry the Scottish executive have been paying out something like £17 million to prisoners because they have to slop out every morning - poor little scum ****s have to clean up after themselves.

Wonder what Joe would make of that :brickwall

And Brazil's not exactly a safe country either.

Their approach seems to be about as effective as ours in curbing crime.

But at least with their approach there's more dead scum :)

bugsti 16 August 2007 08:17 AM

In addition to flogging, I think parents who have been "misguided" in their parenting should also be punished.

mart360 16 August 2007 08:22 AM

Lets start the SN party,

vote me for PM, and my day one agenda is:

1:Tent city...location TBA

2:Rip up Human Rights act

3:Abolish speed cams

4:More coppers on beat

4: Make Political Correctness an offence, (we have common sense)

Cant wait until day 2 :D:D:D
