Classic Side skirts
I've just seen body shop guy who said it would cost £170 to take off the side skirts and rear skirts and prepare and spray them silver.
Is this a good price? He also added the rear bumper will have to come off to get to the clips on the back skirts - is this right? :wonder: |
the rear corner skirts can be taken off with the bumper on, couldnt tell you about the price though mate

id personally snap that up, i got a quote for just respraying just the side skirts which was twice your quote.

Bargain m8. I've done many sets, and they need a lot of work doing to them to get them up to the same standard/finish as the bumper finish. Even sounds a bit too cheap IMHO. |
Yep, it is very cheap, i was quoted £300.
FWIW are they still unpainted plastic ones at the moment? A common problem is people clean them with silicone based cleaners, which then makes them a b**tard to spray. |

dude my local body repair shop will spray both rear panels on a ford ka for 230!! said hed spray all the black bumpers/wheels arches too for 300 total so .. his work is cosher too

I just did this myself today and it was a cinche! What car is yours as on my classic I would have had to take the bumper out to remove the rear spats as there are some screws behind that you cant get to while the bumper is mounted. Taking it off is easy enough though, 4 bolts under the car (two on each side) and two bolts under the arches and the bumper will slide off on its mounting bar.
As it happens I sprayed the lot (side skirts and rear spats) while they were mounted on the car, just a bit of careful masking and away I went. Halfords made a pretty good paint match for a measely £10.99 as one 300ml can was enough to spray the lot. Just needed some grey primer and clear lacquer and some fine grain finishing paper and did most of it (excluding lacquer as this will come tomorrow) in half a day. Depends on how confident you are with a spray can tbh, but I am a beginner in this field and I think mine came out rather well. I admit it wouldn't be anywhere near as good as a professional bodyshop but I am happy with it and all for £25!! :thumb: |
