Castrol Gearbox oil

I was recomended changing my gear box oil to 'Castrol Syntrax' after it started catching on changing from 4th to 5th gear. However the only 'Syntrax' I've found is called Driveline. Is this gear oil or something different? Also will I need about 4L of oil for the box? It's an 03 WRX.

Thanks

Thats the same stuff by a different name and you should need 4.1 litres, in practice you may get away with the bare 4l if you ring the bottles out.

cheers

Ok cheers, because it was called Castrol Driveline and came in only a 1L bottle. There were others for the differential etc. but wasn't sure if Driveline applied to the gearbox. Is there no such thing as Castrol Syntrax Gearbox oil then? Just want to be sure I'm getting the right stuff.

My experience with Syntrax has also been excellent on notchy gearboxes. Why I can only find it in 1L bottles I don't know but it makes mungo angry ;). I am due to be changing mine again soon as the millers stuff that was recently put in is awful in my box. Mr. Rawle, would you be able to say if the capacity is the same on the 5spd classic? I could always do a search :D.

Cheers,

Nick :).

yes, it was the 5sp he was refering to. :thumb: All subaru 5sp boxes have the 4.1L capacity.

Just to confirm, Driveline is the Syntrax, just a rename. In fact the last time I saw it in Halfords it still says Syntrax in small print next to Driveline

Did it make any difference to the crunch as I've got a 6 speed that only crunches (although constant) when pushing hard from 4th to 5th and sometimes 2nd to 3rd - when driving normally, the gear change is sweet. I'm going to change the oil anyway (as per Bob's advice:thumb: ) but wonder if it will completely stop crunch or if I need some TLC done to the box?
