Importing scooby to USA

Hi All,
Im after some info on Importing my subaru impreza to california USA.
I will be emigrating in 6 months time and have had a decent quote for shipping but have been warned that the americans might not let it it due to crash test policies etc, does anyone on the site have any info for me or know of anyone who is doing the same thing.

The car is only worth 3 grand tops and it may be best if I sold it before emigrating, but Im fond of the old girl :luvlove: and dont mind driving on the wrong side of the car for the US.

Cheers.

Hi mate I looked into this when I moved over there bout 18 months ago Its about a grand shipping costs then you have to get it registered couple hundred then get it smogged if your in the state of california, this is where the problem is , it won't pass especially if you got de cat on, thats why america didn't get a turbo'ed impreza til the bugeye and the engine had its emissions pulled down.

Somebody might say different but this is what i found when I looked into it. I sold mine as it was easier .

Hi m8, Its still got the centre cat on it so it will pass in this country.. but I dont know if they have a more stringent test to pass with a lower level over there.

The guy I spoke to about shipping it over said that he had a problem wth a customers mini not passing crash test, but im not sure if thats a problem with a subaru?

Its probably easier just buying a bugeye or later out there , like you suggest.

Cheers.
