I bought and paid for one of these devices 18th November 2001 and paid on their website using my visa. The payment was taken from my account immediately although I recieved notification that the unit wouldn't arrive until 24th December 2001.

It did indeed arrive as promised but it didn't work as it failed to download the database of where all the fixed cameras are. Ironically the company emailed me on the 24/12/2001 to tell me that they were aware of software problems with a small batch of these units; one of which was mine.

So I've returned the unit for a software patch, which they should have recieved today.

Has anyone else encountered this problem with their unit? Has anyone else got their units up and running and does it work?

Just for the record, the company offered me a two months extension of the database update facility, from 6 to 8 months.

SeanG 02 January 2002 02:06 PM

Alan,

I too got my unit just before Xmas and it won't connect to the database. I phoned them but only got an ansafone message that they were not in the office until today. I will phone them later and get them to try and fix it!

Make sure you tell them you want some form of compensation, whether that be 2 months extra database updates or cash. It'll cost you £4 to send the thing back via registered post - because of it's value.

druddle 02 January 2002 02:19 PM

I got mine on Xmas Eve and sure enough it had to go back for the software update. I was going to deliver it but they asked me to send it to them, so its gone today.

Interesting you got the 2 months additional FOC. I am gonna try that one !!

FYI - I ordered mine in early Sept, the payment was taken off my card early Dec and I got it on the 24th.

Sean, how did you get on with the call?

ChrisB 03 January 2002 12:12 AM

it would appear that there is a problem with a small number of units manufactured and sent out last week.
Has anyone seen a working one yet?

SeanG 03 January 2002 11:49 AM

Alan,

I emailed them directly in the end and got the same two month deal that you did. I need to package the unit up and send it off.

Sean

Ian Cook 03 January 2002 11:51 AM

Chris, i havent seen or heard of a single one that worked 100% out of the box, erm, no hang on i think a guy in Scotland was able to get his to work !!! It sounds liek the whole first production batch was rushed and shipped so people had them, then they recalled them to get them to work !

GAZZ SCOOBY 03 January 2002 12:09 PM

My unit was the same as above and i've also sent it back they should have received it yesterday
I also made a note of the serial number on the unit just to check if they replace it or update like they say they can or arethey just faulty units ??

i'm gunna send them a mail to get an extension on the updates too..:) :D
Thanks
Gazza

druddle 03 January 2002 12:15 PM

Dave

druddle 03 January 2002 12:45 PM

Dave

GAZZ SCOOBY 03 January 2002 01:32 PM

I have just got mine back from having the software fix.
It was the wrong phone number in the unit !!!!.
I took it to Reading on the 02/01/02 and it was done same day
I picked it up today so will test later

I'd consider buying a garmin GPS V at around £400 you get a top notch map display GPS with all the UK software and there are lots of sites you can get a camera location download from. the thing works perfect out of the box + bonus : the software will direct you to a pub at the other end of the country if you like.

Keep us posted as to how the unit functions. Did it download the database without a hitch?

Alan

DaveS6 03 January 2002 10:37 PM

Personally I have a geodosy and it is bloody excellent. it has never let me down and I now never go anywhere without it. It has saved me many a 3 points!

I am appauled to hear all the problems you have had with origion blue-i. I have yet to hear from anyone who has it working. It doesn't give you much confidence does it!

Can't wait to see what it is like when you guys get them back

Dave

GAZZ SCOOBY 04 January 2002 02:51 PM

Well got my Blue I Unit back today and yes it updated fine and i've tested it already
It is cool only alerts if your over the speed limit if your below a nice X symbol on the display
It's lost satelite link a few times but for only 5 seconds and only 2-3 times
I've already found 2 unregistered cameras so i hope that i get 2x £50 already for spotting new ones !!!
The hunt is on to find new ones :) :D

Verdict : ITS BLOODY GOOD

Thanks
Gazza

SeanG 04 January 2002 02:54 PM

Excellent.......at last a positive message about the unit. Can't wait to get mine back now!!

Sean

druddle 04 January 2002 02:58 PM

Gazza - Is the display backlit at all ?

Dave (waiting for mine to come back..............)

overthelimit 04 January 2002 03:00 PM

All working OK
Updates OK, It knows about cameras local to me
managed to get it to show I was going to fast

So far so good.

Rick

GAZZ SCOOBY 04 January 2002 03:02 PM

Yes the unit is backlit but you can set it to light only when it finds a camera or on all the time if you wish

P.S make sure you register the unit or else you will not be able to get the £50 reward

Gazza

DaveS6 04 January 2002 03:05 PM

Please to hear the report that it is working for someone.. I am looking foward to the report on www.speedtraps.co.uk..

It looks an excellent unit, i like the functionality and the fact that it knows the direction of the camera.. keep us posted!

Dave

SeanG 04 January 2002 03:31 PM

AlanN

In the instructions that say that if a camera is a fixed direction it only triggers if you pass in that direction (as a default). If a site is reversable it triggers in both directions and REV appears on the screen. Also, if the speed limit is variable (like the A3 - M4 section of the M25) it triggers at any speed (I think I got this one correct?) and puts VAR or something on the screen.

Sean

AlanN 04 January 2002 03:35 PM

Got it Sean.
Cool

Alan

BuRR 04 January 2002 03:58 PM

In all that time I have never come across a fixed site that it didn't find so to find two in the first couple of days with this unit would worry me with regard to their database size, which I think they said would be "at least as good" as their competitors?
Can anyone state whether these cameras are included in the Goedsey database, or are they new ones that have only just appeared?

Philip Attaway 04 January 2002 05:00 PM

Gazza

I don't think it's very re-assuring that you have found two cameras in one day! Had you been speeding, you could have already clocked up 6 points and £120 fine minimum. Your 'reward' of £100 isn't going to cover that!!

Phil

GAZZ SCOOBY 04 January 2002 05:31 PM

These cameras which didn't trigger it are meant to be dummies ?anyway there are 4 in my area 2 triggered 2 didn't
Not sure if dummy cameras will trigger it or not but who knows which are dummies ..as some areas rotate between different cameras ??
All these Questions
I will have to check
But Dummys or not i stick to the speed just incase :)

Thanks :)
Gazza
