As I am having the Link system installed in a couple of weeks and taking account of the comments and info. I am getting, it would seem a good idea to replace the centre cat with a muffled section (Magnex?) to get more advantage from the adjustability available. I already have s/s downpipe and don`t fancy the idea of increased noise level. (Already swopped s/s backbox to a Magnex to reduce noise).
How much are these things, and do they work in terms of power release and noise reduction. Would a sports cat (e.g. Power Eng.) be a viable alternative?
Cheers guys - JohnD

I noticed at a rolling road day that my car with decat down pipe, standard centre and magnex 6x4 was louder than another with same system but with magnex silenced centre,so I got a magnex straight through :D .

The magnex resonated pipe is about 110 quid. On a standard car it drops a few bhp over the straight through AFAIK but hardly noticable. I too went for the straight through, now with a full magnex system.

£57 for a straight through Magnex center, I very much doubt that this would result in much of a noise increase over your current catted center, however, it is one less restriction, so a noise increase would be on the cards.

Going a bit 'mod-mad' eh John! ;)

Cheers mate

Hi Paul
Just dipping into the old redundancy payoff for a bit of therapy!
I stuck most of it away, but somehow a few grand got left behind, God knows how that could have happened!! http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/monkes.gif
What form does the resonator take in the Magnex, is it simply a straight through silencer? If so there can be little more restriction than the straight pipe?
Regards JohnD

correct, the resonated pipe has a chamber in the middle that softens the noise a little, this in turn offers a slightly more restrictive flow for the gasses.

A straight through would offer greater power gains, the resonated would be quieter but with a slight power gain.

Personaly I would go for a straight through and see what it is like, it is not too much of a hardship to change to the resonated one if it is a little too noisy?

Cheers John

I`ve replaced my standard centre section with a Magnex straight through after I put on a Scoobysport B/B. To me it does`nt sound any louder in the car but has a slightly deeper note outside :D

I have a resonated Magnex centre with a Scoobysport back box, it's loud and deep, and rattles ornaments in the living room when I park next to the front door after a run :D

Simon.
